GOD’S CALL

The person who has been “saved,” who has “heard the good news of salvation,” still lives in an un-saved world, a world sadly oblivious to the pres-ence of God. Today’s readings outline how the dis-ciple is present in the world. The outline begins with Isaiah: “Share your bread . . . shelter the oppressed . . . clothe the na-ked” (Isaiah 58:7). Those who hear the word of sal-vation are not insensitive to the urgent needs of others. Then Paul reminds his flock that he brought Christ to them not in eloquence or wis-dom, but by being with them in the “weakness and fear” of their daily lives (1 Corinthians 2:3). Final-ly, Jesus tells his disciples to go out into the gloom and darkness of the streets of the world and let God’s light shine through their good deeds.

We disciples don’t save the world. To the extent, however, that we have heard the word of God and been awakened to God’s presence, we may spread that word and bring that presence to others.

The Altar Guild will be having their first Valentine’s Bake Sale & Raffle fundraiser on the weekend of February 15-16 after all the weekend Masses. We invite you to buy tickets for the gift baskets we will be raffling off, and/or purchase one of the delicious homemade bake sale items. The Guild will start selling tickets for the raffle after each Mass begin-ning the weekend of February 1-2. Tickets are just $1/ticket. This fundraiser is in lieu of the White El-ephant Sale that the Guild has previously had. If you had items that you were saving up to donate to our sale, some suggestions for groups you can do-nate them to are: St. Vincent de Paul, Napa’s Com-munity Projects store, Goodwill, or the DAV that do curb side pick-ups (Disabled American Vets).

THE SPIRIT OF THE LITURGY Series on Pope Benedict's The Spirit of the Liturgy. Don't miss the opportunity to learn about the clas-sical work of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI about our highest form of prayer and worship. What does it mean to worship God? How ought we to under-stand the Liturgy? If Jesus came to bring “worship in Spirit and truth”, why do so many Christians worship in a particular place (church), at a particu-lar time (Sundays), following a particular pattern of worship (liturgy and ritual)? Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI answers these and other important questions in his classic work, The Spirit of the Lit-urgy. Explore his answers as theologian & teacher Mark Brumley leads a nine-session course based on The Spirit of the Liturgy. Next classes are the following dates: February 13, 27; March 5, 12, and 19. All sessions begin @ 7:00 P.M. at Kolbe Acade-my-Trinity Prep, 2055 Redwood Rd., Napa. No charge. Donations gratefully accepted.

ANNUAL MINISTRY APPEAL 2020

All of us are called to be people of faith, a faith that is made present everyday of our lives through pray-er and charity. They both go hand in hand. One cannot have one without the other. The readings this weekend challenge all of us to practice the virtue of charity. To help those who are in need: need of sustenance, need of fellowship, etc. As people of faith in God and His Holy Church, our prayers must lead us to love God and others. Once again, you cannot have one without the other. Let us continue to pray so that all of us at St. Thomas might continue to grow in our faith and the grace of God by truly living our faith the best way that we can, through our prayers and helping others who are in need.

May God continue to bless our families and parish of St. Thomas, Fr. Abel

DOUGHNUT SUNDAY At our February "Doughnut Sunday" we raised $51.00 for St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. A big Thank You to Rochelle and Doug Heskett for help-ing with this month's "Doughnut Sunday." Gospel: MT 5:13-16

R. Alleluia, alleluia. I am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever

follows me will have the light of life. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

R. Aleluya, aleluya. Yo soy la luz del mundo, dice el Señor; el que me sigue

tendrá la luz de la vida. R. Aleluya.

Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be sea-soned? It is no longer good for any-thing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hid-den. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”

Evangelio: Mt 5, 13-16

As I arrived to St. Thomas, I noticed the many items that need to be fixed or replaced. Let me tell you, there are MANY THINGS! Thank you for your support of our parish: financial, time and talents. I often tell people, “We are the little parish that could”—by the grace of God and all your support. The good news is that the church doors are finally fixed. Once again thank you for all your constant support to our parish.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA

¡BUENAS NOTICIAS!

GOOD NEWS!
