FOOLISHNESS Sometimes the idea of repentance seems old-fashioned, naïve, even foolish. But if you’re looking for real foolishness, you’ll find it in today’s read-ings.
We begin with Leviticus and the admonition, “Take no revenge and cherish no grudge” (Leviticus 19:18). We’ve heard that message before, of course, so we might forget how far it is from the so-called “practical realities of life.” Saint Paul warns us about being practical, though. Whoever considers oneself wise had better “become a fool,” because “the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God” (1 Corinthians 3:18, 19).
This “foolishness” continues in the Gospel: “Offer no resistance to one who is evil” (Matthew 5:39). In fact, offer the other cheek when you’ve been slapped. Hand over your coat as well as your shirt. Be like God, who sends sunshine and rain on the bad as well as the good. “So be perfect,” says Jesus, “just as your heavenly Father is perfect” (5:48).

All students who regularly attend classes on Tues-day will attend classes as usual. Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation. Students who attend classes on Tuesday are not required to attend Mass on Ash Wednesday. It is a great way to start Lent and certainly fine to attend Mass. Thank you.
THE SPIRIT OF THE LITURGY Series on Pope Benedict's The Spirit of the Liturgy. Don't miss the opportunity to learn about the clas-sical work of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI about our highest form of prayer and worship. What does it mean to worship God? How ought we to under-stand the Liturgy? If Jesus came to bring “worship in Spirit and truth”, why do so many Christians worship in a particular place (church), at a particu-lar time (Sundays), following a particular pattern of worship (liturgy and ritual)? Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI answers these and other important questions in his classic work, The Spirit of the Lit-urgy. Explore his answers as theologian & teacher Mark Brumley leads a nine-session course based on The Spirit of the Liturgy. Next classes are the following dates: February 27; March 5, 12, and 19. All sessions begin @ 7:00 P.M. at Kolbe Academy-Trinity Prep, 2055 Redwood Rd., Napa. No charge. Donations gratefully accepted.
CCD NEWS
We will have the Adoration of the Blessed Sacra-ment on Friday, March 6th, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Please come and join us for Adoration on this First Friday. We invite you to sign up for an hour of adoration. The sign-up sheet is on the par-ish bulletin board in the church hall. Please con-sider signing up for an hour to ensure we have eve-ry hour covered, and hopefully more than one per-son per hour can come. We will have the celebra-tion of mass at 12:00pm.
BLESSED SACRAMENT ADORATION
I have noticed that there are some people that show up at various parts of the Mass. Some people show up at the end and others arrive only to receive communion and leave afterwards. The reality is that we are called to attend Mass from the beginning until the end. Attending Mass means when the priest begins the first prayer and until the priest exits the church. It is not allowed to only arrive pri-or to when the Eucharist is distributed and leave afterwards. Also, it is not allowed to leave immedi-ately after receiving the Eucharist. If we do not arrive prior to the reading of the Gospel, is consid-ered that we have not attended Mass and we should not receive communion during that Mass. Also, at the end of Mass, we are called to wait until the priest exits the church because the one who is lead-ing the procession is the crucifix, Christ is the one that is leading us after Mass. I hope this makes sense and brings clarity to the issue. If any of you have any further questions, feel free to let ask me. May God continue to bless our families and parish of St. Thomas,
Fr. Abel
NOVELIST RON HANSEN Acclaimed Catholic Novelist Ron Hansen Speak-ing at St. Thomas. Professor in the Arts and Humanities at Santa Clara University, and is also an ordained Permanent Deacon.

Gracias.

Gospel: Mt 5:38-48
R. Alleluia, alleluia. Whoever keeps the word of Christ, the love of God is truly
perfected in him. R. Alleluia, alleluia.
R. Aleluya, aleluya.
R. Aleluya.
Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no re-sistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand over your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.
“You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the un-just. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be per-fect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
