LOST AND FOUND Welcome to “Lost and Found Sunday”! Just in case being in church makes us proudly consider our-selves especially religious, today’s Gospel suggests that we’d be wiser to admit that we’re sometimes lost. Then we’ll eventually be happily counted among Jesus’ “found,” because today Jesus focuses on a lost sheep, lost coin, lost son. Jesus does so because the Pharisees and scribes, proudly consid-ering themselves especially religious, “began to complain” that Jesus “welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So Jesus warns them—and us—to stop judging others. Marvel instead that God’s amazing grace has found us! Indeed, we should become Je-sus’ friends lovingly trying to find others. So Exo-dus asks, if God “relented in punishment” and par-doned us, shouldn’t we forgive fellow sinners gra-ciously? Even Paul admits his “arrogance” as “foremost among sinners.” We too, happy at being “mercifully treated,” should share with everyone else Jesus’ unfailing patience.

We are currently accepting registrations for the RCIA, a program for adults 18 and older, who wish to receive the sacraments of initiation, bap-tism, communion and/or confirmation. You may call the office at 707-255-2949 for more infor-mation. Classes will begin on Monday, Septem-ber 23 at 7pm in the parish hall.

St. Thomas is preparing food for the “Table” at the Presby-terian Church every third Thursday of each month. We hope you will use the sign-up

sheet so we know what food you bring and who the volunteer helpers will be on that Thursday. We need potatoes, carrots, ham, green beans, and milk. The sign-up sheet for the food is on the “Table” board and a half barrel marked “Table” underneath where you can put food the Sunday before. This is on the NW corner of the Hall.

We will have the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Fri-day, October 4th, from 9am to 9pm. Mass will be celebrat-ed at 12pm. Please come and join us for Adoration on this First Friday.

LIFE CHAIN

As I mentioned in August, when I gave the financial report of the parish, I stated the need to fix the roofs of the church and the rectory. Because currently there are some leaks in the church, my goal is to fix the roof of the church first and then the roof of the rectory. Unfortunately, I have been finding difficult to address this issue. Some of the companies that have been contacted tell me that they do not work on flat roofs. I am reaching out to see if any parishioners know of any roofing companies that we may contact to help our parish with this task. If you know of any contacts of some roofing companies, please let me know so that we can address this issue. May God continue to bless you and our parish of St. Thomas, Fr. Abel

En la Iglesia de Santo Tomás tenemos la Adoración del Santísimo Sacramen-to el viernes 4 de octubre de 9am a 9pm. El Santísimo Sacramento estará expuesto en la custodia en el altar para Adoración y oración hasta las 10pm y la misa se celebrará a las 12pm en In-

gles. Por favor venga y acompáñenos para la Adoración en este primer viernes.

Como mencioné en agosto, cuando di el informe financiero de la parroquia, dije la necesidad de arre-glar los techos de la iglesia y la rectoría. Debido a que actualmente hay algunas goteras en la iglesia, mi objetivo es arreglar primero el techo de la iglesia y luego el techo de la rectoría. Lamentablemen-te, me ha resultado difícil abordar este problema. Algunas de las compañías que han sido contacta-das me dicen que no trabajan en techos planos. Quisiera pedirles si algunos feligreses saben de algu-na compañía de techos que podamos contactar para ayudar a nuestra parroquia con esta tarea. Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus, but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So to them he ad-dressed this parable. “What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance. “Or what woman having ten coins and losing one would not light a lamp and sweep the house, searching carefully until she finds it? And when she does find it, she calls together her friends and neighbors and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found the coin that I lost.’ In just the same way, I tell you, there will be rejoic-ing among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Yo les aseguro que también en el cielo habrá más alegría por un pe-cador que se arrepiente, que por noventa y nueve justos, que no necesitan arrepentirse. ¿Y qué mujer hay, que si tiene diez monedas de plata y pierde una, no enciende luego una lámpara y ba-rre la casa y la busca con cuidado hasta encon-trarla? Y cuando la encuentra, reúne a sus ami-gas y vecinas y les dice: 'Alégrense conmigo, por-que ya encontré la moneda que se me había per-dido'. Yo les aseguro que así también se alegran los ángeles de Dios por un solo pecador que se arrepiente".
