CORRECTION - Special Collection On August 11-12, 2018, a special second collection will be taken up in our parishes/missions for our Priests' Pension Plan. This collection aids in providing funds to care for our retired priests who have served the people of God so faithfully over the years in the Diocese of San Angelo. Currently, we have 14 senior priests who are receiving their pensions; and within the next ten years, 5 more priests are anticipated to retire. Thank you for your prayers and financial assistance to help care for our senior priests.

Mi primer mes en San Esteban, ha sido llenado con muchas "novedades". Mi nueva vida como sacerdote ordenado con todos ustedes aquí, es para mí un tiempo de crecimiento. Este crecimiento es parte de la "novedad" que he querido vivir. Con el "nuevo crecimiento" vienen dolores de crecimiento que me dan la oportunidad de sumergirme en mis diversos roles que vienen con mi oficina. Ser un testigo de la misericordia de Dios en el sacramento de la confesión me ha permitido entrar en los dolores del crecimiento de los demás. Aquí ofrecemos el sacramento antes de cada una de las 3 misas diarias, los miércoles de 6:30 p.m. a 7:30 p.m, los sábados de 4:00 p.m. a 5:00 p.m., y claro por consulta. No tengo que decir que tenemos tiempos más que suficientes a la semana para venir y recibir la misericordia de Dios y el perdón de nosotros para mejorarnos y seguir creciendo para la GLORIA que estamos destinados a vivir, en esta hora. We received a call from a local landlord recently who took issue with the article we wrote last week. In it we spoke of the many people in Midland right now who are being faced with rent increases they cannot afford. We cast blame partly on the State of Texas for failing to regulate rent and also on the many landlords who have taken advantage of our booming economy to raise rents exorbitantly.

The landlord we spoke with took issue with the fact that we took such a stereotypical view of landlords. He pointed out that he pays property taxes and those taxes go up each year as do maintenance costs. In speaking with him we saw that he was not a money-hungry, greedy person out to step on the lowly in order to make huge profits, but simply a man trying to make a living through rental properties.

We owe him, and many of the other local landlords in Midland a huge apology if any of them felt this was directed at them. No, there are many decent landlords in Midland, and we praise them highly. It is the out-of-town corporations that are raising monthly rents from $800 to $1,200+ per month that we take issue with. We apologize to anyone who misconstrued what we meant to say.

BREAD PICKUP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need someone to pick up the bread that is donated to us by
