Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

St. Stephen’s will be holding training sessions for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMs) on Wednesday, 17, at 6:30PM in the main Church. Are you a fully initiated Catholic (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) in good standing, and a registered

member of the Parish? Do you have a deep love for the Eucharist?

If you answered “Yes” to all of these questions, please consider joining this important and very special ministry!

Campus Ministry Position The Diocese of San Angelo is seeking a full-time Campus Minister to serve three college campuses: University of Texas at Permian Basin (Odessa, TX), Odessa College, and Midland College (Midland, TX). Midland and Odessa are 20 minutes apart. This position requires a practicing

Catholic with a B.A. in Pastoral Studies or Theology (Masters preferred), experience in ministry, pastoral and administrative skills. The Director of Campus Ministry is responsible for the pastoral leadership of the campus faith community in an academic setting. This includes liturgy, music, faith formation, RCIA and sacramental preparation where appropriate, social ministry and fellowship, pastoral care to students, faculty, and administrative responsibilities. XV Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Ciclo “C” 14 de julio de 2019

Pero ¿por qué Jesús elige a un samaritano como protagonista de la parábola? Porque los samaritanos eran despreciados por los judíos, por las diversas tradiciones religiosas. Sin embargo, Jesús muestra que el corazón de ese samaritano es bueno y generoso y que —a diferencia del sacerdote y del levita— él pone en práctica la voluntad de Dios, que quiere la misericordia más que los sacrificios. Dios siempre quiere la misericordia y no la condena hacia todos. Quiere la misericordia del corazón, porque Él es misericordioso y sabe comprender bien nuestras miserias, nuestras dificultades y también nuestros pecados. A todos nos da este corazón misericordioso. El samaritano hace precisamente esto: imita la misericordia de Dios, la misericordia hacia quien está necesitado.

Muchas lecciones les han dado Nuestro Señor a los fariseos, pero ninguna tan bella como ésta. Es de esas ocasiones en las que Cristo da a conocer su doctrina y sus mandamientos a todos los hombres, y lo hace de manera muy hermosa.

Amar al prójimo no es muy fácil, porque requiere donarse a los demás, y ese donarse cuesta, porque no a todos los tratamos o queremos de la misma manera. Por ello tenemos que lograr amar a todos por igual, sin ninguna distinción. Quererlos a todos, sin preferir a nadie. Es difícil mas no imposible.

Dios nos ha dado el ejemplo al vivir su propia doctrina: "no hay amor más grande que el que da la vida por sus amigos", pero Él no la dio solo por sus amigos, sino también por sus enemigos, y muchos santos han hecho lo mismo.

Imitemos a Cristo en su vida de donación a los demás, y vivamos con confianza y constancia su mandamiento: "vete y haz tú lo mismo".

We met with Raymond who was in need of rent. In May of 2016 when he was working as an electrician he was electrocuted, resulting in the loss of his right arm. The current went through his right arm and out through his left leg and although he did not lose the leg he suffered damage to the muscles. He was hospitalized for 4 months, and when he was released he moved back home with his mother. They lived together quietly for the next three years. He applied for disability but astonishingly was denied! He did not know enough to appeal or to get a lawyer. The money that he got from his settlement ran out but still, they managed. Then two months ago his mother passed away and the house they were renting was sold by the owner and he was forced to move. He found a small mobile home but he worried how he was going to survive. While he was able to pay to move into the home, he did not have income to keep the payments going. Fortunately his landlord advised him to get a lawyer. When he did the lawyer assured him that he indeed qualified for disability, and he was able to appeal and get disability benefits, and they are set to start sometime in August. He came to us for help because he was already a month behind on his rent and his landlord was reluctantly threatening eviction. In talking with him we realized the pain he was in was prompted by his loneliness. When his mother was alive he at least had her. Now he is alone. While he seemed unaware of it, as he spoke of missing her tears ran down his face. We asked him if he had plans for the future. He said he had always wanted to teach, especially in the field of FFA. We steered towards some of the agencies that offered teaching opportunities, and suggested that he volunteer his time at one of those places until he could find a paying job. We stressed to him the importance of getting out in public and being with other people. He seemed excited about the prospect and we pray that he follows through and volunteers. As for his rent…we paid June rent that he was behind on, we paid the current month of July and we paid August, which should cover him until his disability checks start coming in. Please pray for this lonely young man. We certainly wish him peace.
