From the Pastor Dear Parishioners,

At the most crucial moment of Jesus’ life, when he offered his life on the cross for our salvation, you would expect that his closer friends, his disciples, would be with him. The ones who were called to follow him, the ones who promised to give their life for their Lord, and the ones who even assured him that they would never deny him. Paradoxically these were the ones who betrayed him, who denied him, these were the ones who were sleeping when Jesus asked them to pray, and these were the ones who left him and fled when Jesus was caught in the Olive garden. We know from the Gospel of John that only Mary and the beloved disciple were at the foot of the cross.

You and I have been called also to be the disciples of Jesus. We are now his friends; you and I have received many blessings from the Lord. I believe that we have promised not to deny him, not to betray him and not to abandon him. Are we going to leave Jesus alone at the most crucial and single celebration of our faith on this Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday? I don't think so.

There is not three different liturgies. These three days are the core of our faith. They are one continuous celebration.

As Jesus asked his disciples to pray, we are called to watch and pray because the spirit is eager, but the flesh is weak. Are we willing to accompany our Lord and experience the grace to celebrate the Last Supper, his death on the cross and his resurrection?

Let us give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist that Jesus gave us on Holy Thursday. Let us pray for the priests as Jesus instituted the sacrament of priesthood at the last Supper. Let us accompany the Lord on Good Friday by praying for people who are in need, people who suffer and struggle, people who are enduring with the Lord his agony and passion, and Let us celebrate with joy the most precious gift of our salvation on Easter Vigil or Easter Sunday.

By coming to these liturgies, especially during this year of mercy, we are expressing our commitment to accompany the Lord and showing him, like the Blessed Mary and the beloved disciple who stayed at the foot of the cross, that you and I are today's disciples who do not want to give up our faith, but instead we want to be with him to renew his passion, death and resurrection.

Queridos feligreses, En el momento más crucial de la vida de Jesús, cuando

él ofreció su vida en la cruz por nuestra salvación, uno esperaría que sus amigos más cercanos, y sus

discípulos, estaría con él. Los que fueron llamados a seguirlo, los que prometieron dar su vida por su Señor, y

los que incluso le aseguraron que jamás lo negarían. Paradójicamente estos fueron los que lo traicionaron y lo

negaron, estos fueron quienes estaban durmiendo cuando Jesús les pidió que oraran, y los que lo

abandonaron y huyeron cuando Jesús fue capturado en el monte de los olivos. Sabemos por el Evangelio de Juan que sólo María y el discípulo amado estuvieron a

los pies de la cruz. Usted y yo hemos sido llamados también a ser los

discípulos de Jesús. Ahora somos sus amigos. Hemos recibido muchas bendiciones del Señor. Creo que hemos

hecho la promesa de jamás negarlo, traicionarlo ni abandonarlo. ¿Vamos a dejar solo a Jesús en la celebración crucial y única de nuestra fe en

este Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo y Pascua? No lo creo.

No se trata de tres liturgias diferentes de las cuales podemos elegir a nuestra

preferencia. Estos tres días son el núcleo de nuestra fe. Se trata de una celebración

continua. Así como Jesús pidió a sus discípulos que oraran,

estamos llamados a velar y orar porque el espíritu está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil. ¿Estamos dispuestos a

acompañar a Dios nuestro Señor y experimentar la gracia de celebrar la Última Cena, su muerte en la cruz y

resurrección? Demos gracias por el regalo de la Eucaristía que Jesús

nos dio el jueves Santo. Oremos por los sacerdotes como Jesús instituyó el sacramento del sacerdocio en la

Última Cena. Acompañemos al Señor en el Viernes Santo, orando por las personas que están en necesidad, los que sufren y luchan, por las personas que están con

el Señor en su agonía y su pasión, y celebremos con alegría el don precioso de nuestra salvación en la Vigilia

Pascual o el Domingo de Pascua. Al venir a estas liturgias, especialmente en este año de

la misericordia, estamos expresando nuestro compromiso de acompañar al Señor y de mostrarle, al

igual que María, y su discípulo amado, que se quedaron a los pies de la cruz que usted y yo somos discípulos de

hoy que no queremos renunciar a nuestra fe, sino que queremos estar con él para renovar su pasión, muerte y
