In today’s Gospel, Peter, James, and John—often described as the inner circle of disciples—went with Jesus to a high mountain. (In the Bible, mountains are of-ten places of Divine Revelation.) The three are so overcome by what they see, hear, and experience that they do not know what to do or say. They simply know that they have witnessed something powerful. Jesus instructed them to tell no one of what they had seen, and they did indeed keep the matter to them-selves. This is the opposite of what the leper in the Gospel just two Sundays ago did. He told everyone what happened to him!

RICE BOWL Encounter

Cesia We encounter Cesia

in Nicaragua, where, despite a lack of economic opportunity, young people pursue their dreams by build-ing businesses to better their lives. How can you work to improve the lives of others this Lent? How can you support those, worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

Stations of the Cross during Lent—We are pray-

ing the Stations of the Cross every Friday after Mass during Lent. This is where we walk with Jesus to Calva-ry. It is a great way to encounter Jesus through prayer.

Thank You—Our profound thanks to parishioners for

their untiring support for John during his extended ill-ness, surgery and recovery. Without your prayers, cards and well wishes we couldn’t have endured the serious and debilitating disease and subsequent surgery. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. We are truly blessed with a loving, nurturing, and supportive church community. With a thankful heart, John and Carol York

Catholic Call-In Day to Congress

Bishop William F. Medley is join-ing with the USCCB in encourag-ing parishioners to participate in a national Catholic “call-in day” to Congress on Monday, February 26, 2018. This is in support of DREAMERS, young people brought to America by their parents as children through no fault of their own. They may face deportation as soon as March 6. Read Bishop Medley’s statement and find steps on how to contact your Senators and Representatives by visiting owensborodiocese.org/dreamers.

Chrism Mass & Cathedral Tours—Bishop William

Medley will celebrate the Annual Chrism Mass, which pro-vides all the sacred oils the Diocese will use throughout the next year, the oil of Catechumens, the oil of the Sick and the Sacred Chrism. This celebration will be held on Tuesday, March 27th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sportscenter. The Cathedral will host guided tours beginning at 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Stephen Cathedral will be open all day for visitors and pilgrims, so self-guided tours are always welcomed. Knowledgeable docents will be able to take groups or couples for a 20 minutes view of the architecture, history and faith-filled symbols that are part of the worship space. There is no need to call ahead, all are welcomed!

WORD OF LIFE February 25, 2018
