Bibles & hymnals are available at each entrance. Please return them to the carts as you exit the social hall following worship. Welcome & Announcements Rev. Alan DyerToday is Christ the King

(or Reign of Christ)

Sunday. This day on

the liturgical calendar

centers on the crucified

and risen Christ, whom

God exalted to rule over

the whole universe. The

celebration of the lordship

of Christ thus looks back

to Ascension, Easter,

and Transfiguration,

and points ahead to the

appearing in glory of the

King of kings and Lord

of lords. Christ reigns

supreme. Christ’s truth

judges falsehood. As the

Alpha and Omega, the

beginning and the end,

Christ is the center of the

universe, the ruler of all

history, the judge of all

people. In Christ all things

began, and in Christ all

things will be fulfilled.

In the end, Christ will

triumph over the

forces of evil.

Please stand if able.*

One: Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!

ALL: The Lord Almighty is here among us;

the God of Israel is our fortress.

WE SHARE OUR LIFE & GIFTS

*AssurAnce of PArdon

In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.Silence for Personal Confession

*PrAyer of confession (All)Almighty God, we bring to you all the ways we have not lived as your people: we stand by watching while those in need struggle to survive; we cast our lots with those who worship power and success; we offer insults rather than words of grace to those who care for us; we scoff at your words which call us to a different way of living. Forgive us, God of Mercy, for not knowing what we do to you, to others, to ourselves. Speak to us through Jesus Christ, our King and our Savior, who bears words filled with your tender mercy and gracious hope.

PrAyers of the PeoPle And the lord’s PrAyer (All)Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*GloriA PAtri h.W. GreAtorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

The Christian life is an

offering of one’s self

to God. In worship the

people are presented

with the costly

self-offering of Jesus

Christ, are claimed and

set free by him, and

are led to respond by

offering to him their

lives, their particular gifts

and abilities, and their

material goods.

“People have an idea that

the preacher is an actor

on a stage, and they are

the critics, blaming or

praising the preacher.

What they don’t know is

that they are the actors

on the stage; the preacher

is merely the prompter

standing in the wings,

reminding them of their

lost lines.”

—Søren Kierkegaard

In 1983, the two largest

Presbyterian churches

in the US reunited. The

reunion plan included a

call for a brief statement

of the Reformed faith. This

statement is designed to

be confessed by the whole

congregation in the setting

of worship. It celebrates

our rediscovery that for all

our undoubted diversity,

we are bound together

by a common faith and a

common task.

*AffirmAtion of fAith (All)We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.
