Welcome to worship at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. During the announcements please take a moment to sign and pass the friendship register located at the end of the pew. As you enter the sanctuary, please silence your cell phones. All children are welcome in worship. If you prefer, a nursery (located in the children’s hall at the rear of the church) is available for children from birth to five years. Worship resources for children are available at the sanctuary entrances.

Welcome & Announcements Rev. Alan Dyer

We gather in worship to

attend to the presence of

God in our lives. In worship

we see the world in light of

God’s grace, and go forth

with a vision and power for

living in the world as God’s

people. The rhythm of the

life of the believer moves

from worship to ministry,

from ministry to worship.

Please stand if able.*

One: Day by day, God leads us:

ALL: to the deep pools of peace, to the green lawns of grace.

One: Day by day, Jesus calls us:

ALL: to pour out ourselves in service, to anoint the stranger with hope.

One: Day by day, the Holy Spirit shows us:

ALL: the community we could be, the family we are called to become.

WE SHARE OUR LIFE & GIFTS

*AssurAnce of pArdon

In the life of the Christian

community God calls

people to particular acts

of discipleship, to use

their personal gifts for

service in the church and

in the world. The act of

commissioning gives the

church the opportunity

to affirm those called to

service, as well as pledge

the support, prayers, and

encouragement of the

community of faith.

In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Silence for Personal Confession

*prAyer of confession (All)Almighty God, you are always with us, guarding our days, and you know when we stray away, when we step out of turn, when we do wrong or turn the other way. Forgive us for not following your path. Help us to understand what it means to be washed by you, led by you, and to set about following you.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Prayer for Illumination

derives from John Calvin,

who believed that, apart

from the Holy Spirit,

neither scripture nor

proclamation could be for

the hearers more than an

accumulation of words,

In 1977 the PC(USA)

adopted A Declaration of

Faith “as a contemporary

statement of faith, a

reliable aid for Christian

study, liturgy, and

inspiration.” In that spirit

we often use it in our

worship to explore what it

means to profess Christian

faith.

*AffirmAtion of fAith (All)The Spirit enabled people of all races, classes, and nations to accept the good news of what God had done in Christ, repent of their sins, and enter the community of faith. We testify that today this same Holy Spirit makes us able to respond in faith to the gospel and leads us into the Christian community. The Spirit brings us out of death into life, out of separation into fellowship. The Spirit makes us aware of our sinfulness and need, moves us to abandon our old way of life, persuades us to trust in Christ and adopt his way. It is not our faith but God’s grace in Jesus Christ that justifies us and reconciles us to God. Yet it is only by faith that we accept God’s grace and live by it.
