Por favor, sigan orando por las misiones del Papa, y sean generosos en la colecta de la semana entrante para la Sociedad para la Propagación de la Fe.

--Desafíos presentes ante la inculturación de la fe-- El substrato cristiano de algunos pueblos —sobre todo occidentales— es una realidad viva. Allí encontramos, especialmente en los más necesitados, una reserva moral que guarda valores de auténtico humanismo cristiano. Una mirada de fe sobre la realidad no puede dejar de reconocer lo que siembra el Espíritu Santo. Sería desconfiar de su acción generosa pensar que no hay auténticos valores cristianos donde una gran parte de la población ha recibido el Bautismo y expresa su fe y su solidaridad de múltiples maneras. Allí hay que reconocer mucho más que unas «semillas del Verbo», ya que se trata de una auténtica fe católica con modos propios de expresión y de pertenencia a la Iglesia. No conviene ignorar la importancia que tiene una cultura marcada por la fe, una cultura evangelizada, más allá de sus límites, tiene muchos más recursos que una mera suma de creyentes frente a los embates del secularismo actual. Una cultura popular evangelizada contiene valores de fe y de solidaridad que pueden provocar el desarrollo de una sociedad más justa y creyente, con sabiduría peculiar que hay que saber reconocer con mirada agradecida. Es imperiosa la necesidad de evangelizar las culturas para inculturar el Evangelio. En países de tradición católica se tratará de cuidar y fortalecer la riqueza que ya existe, y en los países de otras tradiciones religiosas o profundamente secularizados se tratará de procurar nuevos procesos de evangelización de la cultura, aunque supongan proyectos a muy largo plazo. Recordemos que siempre hay un llamado al crecimiento. Toda cultura y todo grupo social necesitan purificación y maduración. Incluso en pueblos católicos, podemos reconocer debilidades que deben ser sanadas por el Evangelio: el machismo, alcoholismo, violencia doméstica, una escasa participación en la Eucaristía, creencias supersticiosas que hacen recurrir a la brujería, etc. Pero es precisamente la piedad popular el mejor punto de partida para sanarlas y liberarlas.

--Challenges that we face as we make our faith a

meaningful reality-- The Christian substratum of certain peoples – most of all in the West – is a living reality. Here we find, especially among the neediest, a moral resource which preserves the values of an authentic Christian humanism. Seeing reality with the eyes of faith, we cannot fail to acknowledge what the Holy Spirit is sowing. It would show a lack of trust in his free and unstinting activity to think that authentic Christian values are absent where great numbers of people have received baptism and express their faith and solidarity with others in a variety of ways. This means more than acknowledging occasional “seeds of the word”, since it has to do with an authentic Christian faith which has its own expressions and means of showing its relationship to the Church. The immense importance of a culture marked by faith cannot be overlooked; before the onslaught of contemporary secularism an evangelized culture, for all its limits, has many more resources than the mere sum total of believers. An evangelized popular culture contains values of faith and solidarity capable of encouraging the development of a more just and believing society, and possesses a particular wisdom which ought to be gratefully acknowledged. It is imperative to evangelize cultures in order to enculturate the Gospel. In countries of Catholic tradition, this means encouraging, fostering and reinforcing a richness which already exists. In countries of other religious traditions, or profoundly secularized countries, it will mean sparking new processes for evangelizing culture, even though these will demand long-term planning. We must keep in mind, however, that we are constantly being called to grow. Each culture and social group needs purification and growth. In the case of the popular cultures of Catholic peoples, we can see deficiencies which need to be healed by the Gospel: machismo, alcoholism, domestic violence, low Mass attendance, fatalistic or superstitious notions which lead to sorcery, and the like. Popular piety itself can be the starting point for healing and liberation from these deficiencies.

LA ORACIÓN EN FAMILIA La oración es para todo bautizado lo que es el aire para los seres humanos: algo imprescindible. Aprender a rezar toca a todos: a los padres, en las distintas etapas de su maduración interior; a los hijos, desde pequeños y cuando poco a poco entran en el mundo de los adultos. La oración en la vida familiar tiene diversas formas. El día inicia con breves oraciones por la mañana. Por ejemplo, los padres pueden levantar a sus hijos con una pequeña jaculatoria; o, después de asearse o antes del desayuno, todos rezan juntos una pequeña oración (el Padrenuestro, el Ave María, parte de un Salmo o del Magnificat, etc.). Cuando llega la noche, la familia busca un momento para dar gracias por el día transcurrido, para pedir perdón por las posibles faltas, para suplicar la ayuda que necesitan los de casa y los de fuera, los cercanos y los lejanos. Es muy hermoso, en ese sentido, aprender a rezar por las víctimas de las guerras, por las personas que pasan hambre, por los que viven sin esperanza y sin Dios. Participar juntos, como familia, en la misa del domingo vale la pena conservar. También cuando los hijos son pequeños. Los padres pueden enseñarles, poco a poco, el sentido de cada rito, las posturas que hay que adoptar, el respeto que merece la Casa de Dios. Son aprendizajes que luego quedan grabadas en los corazones para toda la vida. Un sacramento que merece ser vivido por todos los miembros de la familia es el de la Reconciliación (la confesión). Los niños quedan muy impresionados cuando ven a sus padres pedir perdón, de rodillas, en un confesionario. No es correcto, desde luego, recurrir a presiones para que se confiesen. Pero sí es hermoso enseñarles lo que es el pecado, lo grande que es la misericordia divina, y cómo la Iglesia pide que nos confesemos con frecuencia. Un ámbito de la oración familiar se construye con la ayuda de imágenes de devoción. No basta con colocar aquí o allá un crucifijo, una imagen de la Virgen o el dibujo de algún santo. La imagen tiene sentido sólo si evoca y eleva los corazones la oración y a la confianza en un Dios que está muy presente en la historia humana.

FAMILY PRAYER Prayer is for everyone who is baptized is as air is for human beings: something Indispensable. Learning to pray touches everyone: parents, at different stages of their inner maturation; children, from childhood and when they step into the world of Adults. Prayer in family life has different forms. The day begins with brief prayers in the Morning. For example, parents can lift their children with a small prayer; or, after cleaning or before breakfast, they all pray together (the father, the Hail mary, part of a psalm or the Magnificat, etc.). When the night comes, the family looks for a moment to give thanks for the day, to apologize for the possible faults, to plead for the help needed by the house and the outside, the close and the Distant. It is very beautiful, in that sense, to learn to pray for the victims of the wars, for the people who go hungry, for those who live without hope and without god. Participating together as a family at Sunday Mass is worth Preserving. Also when children are small the parents can teach them, little by little, the meaning of each rite, the postures that must be adopted, the respect that the House of God Deserves. These are things that are then etched into hearts for Life A sacrament that deserves to be lived by all members of the family is that of reconciliation (confession). The children are very impressed when they see their parents begging for forgiveness, on their knees, in a confessional. It is not right, of course, to resort to pressures to be confessed. But it is beautiful to teach them what sin is, how great is divine mercy, and how the church asks us to confess frequently. An area of family prayer is built with the help of images of Devotion. It is not enough to place here or there a crucifix, an image of the Virgin or the drawing of some saint. The image makes sense only if it evokes and elevates the hearts of prayer and trust in a god who is
