Formación de la fe Faith Formation
The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Chris ans, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and venera on. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1). The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of the Church and therefore the example, as well as the guide and inspira on, of everyone who, in and through the Church, seeks to be the servant of God and man and the obedient agent of the promp ngs of the Holy Spirit. In our observance of the Marian month we should take into account the season of the Liturgical Year which largely corresponds with the fi y days of Easter. Our pious exercises could emphasize Our Lady's par cipa on in the Paschal mystery and in Pentecost with which the Church begins. The pious exercises connected with the month of May can easily highlight the earthly role played by the glorified Queen of Heaven, here and now, in the celebra on of the Sacraments of Bap sm, Confirma on and Holy Eucharist.

The month of May brings us the sacraments for our children and teenagers, as well as
Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. Throughout the month we also remember our Blessed Mother Mary! Just this Saturday, May 6, we had 100 children receive their First Holy Communion! Yes 100 children! Our Sisters Norma and Yuri have done a great job again this year along with our catechists in both languages. Please congratulate them when you see them. I would add that priests can come and go but it is very important that we support our sisters in this transition too. We give out flowers every Mother’s Day to all the women at church. It is important that moms, grandmothers, aunts and godmothers know that they are appreciated, respected and loved. Women have a very important role in our community here at St. Rita! They work hard for their families and for the Lord. For my part, as I have said before, women need to be ordained at least to the permanent diaconate. This would help the church to listen and learn from women’s experiences. On May 20 we have the sacrament of Confirmation. We are scheduled to have around 60 teens receive this sacrament. This program has been strengthened over the years to help our teens and their parents live their faith on a daily basis. This is a great challenge for all of us. Our teens need our support and prayers. We have begun to build our post-confirmation youth group too. Parents your teens are always invited to lector at mass, feed the poor, visit the sick, sing in our choirs and take leadership roles here at St. Rita. In general they will follow your lead. I would suggest that as parents you continue to lead and guide your teens closer to Christ by continuing to come to mass as a family. For it is their relationship with the Lord that will last your children and teenagers a lifetime! —————————————————————- Folks, we can finally announce that your new pastor will be Fr. Dayan Machado of the diocese of St. Petersburg. Fr. Machado is presently the associate pastor at St. Clements in Plant City. Please pray for him during this transition. Let us also prepare to welcome him to St. Rita’s!
