FROM THE PASTOR…
Dear Parishioners,
This weekend, at Saturday's 5 pm Mass (bilingual for the occasion), we celebrate sacraments that were pandemic-postponed from Easter and Pentecost.
The candidates are young women and men in our Religious Education Confirmation class, and Rite of Christian Initiation candidates who will receive Baptism and/or Confirmation and/or First Holy Communion.
25 are scheduled to be confirmed; 10 are scheduled for First Communion (there will be an-other First Communion next weekend); 6 are scheduled for Baptism.
It is sad that Covid-19 has thrown such a curve ball at this milestone moment in the lives of these individuals, but thank God the moment has arrived. Better late than never.
The sacraments will have several Covid-19 tweaks. The Bishop has delegated the parish pastor to administer Confirmation in these extraordinary circumstances, and a cotton ball (not an ex-posed thumb) will be used to place the Holy Oil (Chrism) on the candidates. There are no proces-sions in or out of church, and, generally, most of the sacraments will be administered at the candi-dates' place (without their moving). The candidates are severely limited in the number of guests al-lowed on site. Of course, masks are mandatory, as is social distancing.
Thanks to parents and families whose support underlies these sacraments. Thanks also to Sister Christine, our Religious Education Director, Bogar Casiano (one of our Pastoral Ministers), and catechist Arlene Colona (as well as all previous catechists) for their role leading to this celebra-tion.
If you or someone you know is not yet baptized or confirmed or has not yet made First Com-munion, contact the rectory office (718-729-8957) to register for the next formation session or to find out more information.
We praise God for this weekend's increase. May all involved be able to say, with St. Paul in today's second reading, "To me, life is Christ". -Father Jerry Jecewiz
