Applications for Pastoral Council
The deadline for nominations for volunteers to serve on the
Pastoral Council has been extended to Monday, May 13. We
are aware that many parishioners were out of town for Easter
and during spring breaks. Our bulletin announcements ran
during that period of time and we wanted to be sure that all
those who wish to be considered had the opportunity to be
included.
All parishioners are invited to nominate candidates - either
themselves or a fellow parishioner - to serve on this advisory
body. Three seats, each with a term of three years, will be
filled.
All completed, signed nomination forms must be submitted
to the parish office no later than Monday, May 13. Please think
and pray about possible candidates. There is no limit to the
number of nominees who can be included on the nomination
slate. Those who are nominated by others will be contacted
and asked whether they will say “yes” to being a candidate.
If you have questions about the Pastoral Council or the
nomination and selection process, please contact Jan Konkol
at 262-375-1409.
Training for new Eucharistic Ministers
at Mass
Have you ever felt that God is calling you to serve as a
Eucharistic Minister at Mass? Here is a great opportunity to
learn more about this special ministry. You will find that
scheduling is flexible to fit your availability, the time commit-
ment is minimal, and serving our parish in this way is very
rewarding. A training session is scheduled on Saturday, May 11
from 10-11:30 a.m. in the North Church.
If you have questions, wish to enroll in the training session,
or would like to discuss the possibility of setting up an alter-
nate time that is convenient for you, call Jan Konkol at 262-
375-1409 or email her at [email protected].
If you plan to attend on May 11, we ask that you enroll by
May 9 to ensure that there are sufficient handouts for all those
attending.

Please pray for our fellow parishioners
Please call the parish office with your requests for parish-
ioners who are ill or in need of prayers to be published in the
bulletin - both the printed and online versions. Privacy laws
require that all requests be initiated by a member of the imme-
diate family.
Names will be published in a total of 12 bulletins (about
three months). If at the end of that time, the person wishes to
remain on the list, he/she will need to call the parish office and
share that request.
The bulletin prayer list only includes the names of parish-
ioners. Names of non-parishioners, friends and neighbors can
be added to our prayer chain. To be added to the list, please
contact Katie in the parish office at 262-377-1070, ext. 321 or
Communion for the home-bound
Providing the Eucharist for the sick who are not able to be
present for the celebration of the Mass is an ancient and essen-
tial practice of the Church. We currently have parishioners
who regularly visit the home-bound and our local health facili-
ties to offer Holy Communion to Catholics.
However, we are aware of the fact that there may be some
home-bound Catholics who we are not currently receiving. If
you know of a Catholic in Cedarburg who is home-bound
and would like to receive Holy Communion, please contact
the parish office at 262-377-1070. We want to make sure that
those who are not able to join the assembled community on
Sundays are able to nonetheless receive the profound gift of
the Eucharist.
Please note that those living in assisted living facilities do receive
Holy Communion on a regular basis. Staff members at those locations
make sure that Catholics are visited when a minister is there.
What is liturgy?
In the Catholic Church we often talk about something we call "liturgy."
The question is: what is "liturgy?" Our new Director of Liturgical Music
has extensively studied the liturgy and music and so will be sharing bits of
her learning with the parish in several bulletin articles. I hope this can help
us all to deepen our participation in the Holy Mass. -Fr. Patrick
We have mentioned that the three criteria given by the
Catholic Church for liturgical music are that it be (1) holy,
(2) possess a beauty that reveals God, and (3) universal,
transcending time and space. This article will delve a little
deeper into what it means for music to be universal and tran-
scending time and space.
The Second Vatican Council tells us that sacred music
should foster “oneness of spirit” amongst the faithful
(Sacrosanctum Concilium #112). There is a certain level of
unity achieved through the faithful collectively participating
in the dialogues of the Mass through spoken responses.
However, by adding music to the text, there comes a unifica-
tion of breathing and singing that exceeds the unification of
speech. Breathing and textual rhythms become unified in a
way that surpasses spoken dialogue. Further, the singing of
the Ordinaries of the Mass in Latin, as called for by Sacrosanc-
tum Concilium, can foster oneness of spirit not only within an
individual congregation, but with the universal church around
the world.
One of the reasons that the various antiphons (Introit,
Offertory Antiphon, and Communion Antiphon) are so impor-
tant is that they use texts, given to us by the Church herself,
which have been chanted or sung over the course of hundreds
of years. In this way, when we chant the antiphons, we not
only unite ourselves with churches around the world in our
own time, but we also are uniting ourselves with Catholics
throughout all of history. Thus, our Mass is joined more
closely to the other Masses being celebrated throughout all of
history - past, present, and future - in the Catholic Church.
Until next time, keep on singing!
~ Susan DeMarco, Director of Liturgical Music

Parents of first graders...
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are usually cele-
brated during the child’s second grade year. Because of the
importance of these two sacraments and the amount of infor-
mation the child must learn, preparation begins during first
grade or sooner.
Preparation for these sacraments can be done through St.
Francis Borgia Christian Formation classes or St. Francis Bor-
gia School.
Parents who home school their children should contact
Chris Crom, director of Child Ministry, at 262-377-1070, ext.
326 or [email protected].
Chris is also the contact person for any other questions
parents might have. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
