I compliment each one of you for living your lives within the tenets of the Knights of Columbus; Charity, Unity and Fraternity. I thank all of you for the trust you placed in me and for the support you have provided these past 4 years. You exemplify what the Knights of Columbus is all about and the many accomplishments and good deeds provided by your Council will forever attest to the type of men you are. I am honored to count you as my brothers. I admit that when I began my journey as Grand Knight, I had many misgivings and a sense of trepidation. Your Council has always been in the forefront of what Knights should be doing and I felt somewhat inadequate that I would be able to continue to lead your Council in its stellar record. I somehow never imagined as we began this journey together, that it would be four years before it was over. I hope that I have met your expectations to some extent. In the final analysis, I can say with certainty, that all of you have made it easy for me. I could not have worked with better men than the Knights of Council 10762. You have elected a great, knowledge- able, hard working and dedicated group of Officers and an extremely worthy, experienced Grand Knight. With each one of you supporting and helping, I have no doubt that they will continue the tradition of excellence this Council has set. Give them the honor, respect and courtesy they have earned for stepping up to serve you as your officers this coming year. We are an active Council, daily doing what we promised to do by strengthen- ing our faith and walking in the footsteps of our Lord, thereby making the world a better place. Continue to put your vows into action. Let the world see that you’re proud of your Order, proud of being a Knight of Columbus, proud to be a defender of your Church. Remember, Jesus said, “What you do for the least, you do for me”. Work in unity with your brother Knights as you support our officers in an atmosphere that garners respect, empathy, civility, honesty and love. Always remember we are brothers, so in those moments we become too serious or the load becomes too heavy, come together in unity and fraternity. It is said that “parting is such sweet sorrow”, however, I will not “fade away into the night.” Like all our Past Grant Knights, I will continue to serve. Again, I thank each and every one of you for the great support and wonderful memories. You are a wonderful brotherhood of Knights. Vivat Jesus Fraternally, Emmanuel “Dutch” Steenbakker, Grand Knight

My worthy brother Knights,

Everything must eventually come to an end. As I come to the end of my 4 year tenure at the helm of the St. Pius X Council 10762 as your Grand Knight, I reflect with pride on the accomplish-ments of this Council. We achieved those accomplishments because of the caliber of the Knights that we have in our Council. PAST GRAND KNIGHT DINNERThis year the Past Grand Knight Dinner, open to all Council members and their ladies, will be held at the Bistro 44, 6761 E. Tanque Verde Road, at 6:00 PM, June 24. We have enjoyed outside dinning at this restau-rant in the past. The food and service was outstanding.

There are three selections available for dinner. Select one of the following:

• Bourbon Pecan SalmonGrilled salmon served with bourbon pecan brown sugar glaze, fingerling potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

• Pork TenderloinServed with brandy veal glace, fingerling potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

• Chicken Tarragon FettuccineGrilled all natural chicken breast served with roast tomato vodka cream sauce and tarragon oil.

All entrees will include a dinner salad and the Council will provide an appropriate sheet cake for dessert plated and served by Bistro 44. We have committed to an attendance of 40-50 on the patio (misted) but the venue can handle up to 60.

Cost is $25 per guest and of course PGK’s and our retiring GK will be free.

Please make your reservation by calling DGK Grant Pieper (520) 867-6197 or at the Council Meeting.

Indicate your choice of meal and make checks payable to the Knights of Columbus Council 10762. Dead line for this event is 21 June. Space is limited so reserve as soon as possible.

Ask Eligible Men to Join

Today, I want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard-working members. And more members equals more charity.

We know that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to get more men to join. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder’s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights have increased visibility speaking or presenting during and after Masses and at special events. We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order.

During the rest of the year, we often “forget” to ask men to join and to bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. What if the only reason he hasn’t joined is because no one has asked him yet?

When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don’t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often a “selling point” to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family. Soon after, they realize the good our charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be members.

As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping us grow in fraternity in any way that I can.
