FatherMartin’sCornerREFLECTION: Our First Reading and Gospel have

somewhat a similarity. Both talk about following. Elijah

invited Elisha to be his attendant and allowed him to go

back and kiss his father and mother before he will follow

Elijah. On the other hand in the Gospel, Jesus invited the

unnamed persons to follow Him. Since they have their own

personal concerns and priorities, they cannot right away

commit to Jesus’ invitation to discipleship. Families, career

and personal attachments tend to become obstacles rather

vehicles for discipleship. And so, we need to stop thinking

that others depend on us. Jesus’ call demands an immediate

and pure response not with personal terms and

conditions. Discipleship therefore in the business or political

arenas is not a contract dictated or spelled out with terms

and conditions that require our signature but it is a

discipleship that demands our full commitments without

conditions.

Just as Jesus invited the unnamed men to follow Him, so

also I invite you to join the parish ministries. To be

ministers is a privilege given to us to serve God and His

Church especially ministers of the Holy Eucharist/Holy

Mass – like Altar Servers, Lectors and Extraordinary

Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) to the Altar and

Homebound. All these ministers mentioned should be in full

communion with the Church.

THANK YOU!: For the Bells Repair, thanks to the

Filipino Group that spearheaded the bus trip and to the Our

Lady of the First Saturday Prayer Group. Also to those who

participated and personally contributed to it. A thank you

also goes to Michele Hamilton and James Dickinson for

their support and service to the Parish Pastoral Council.

UPDATE: Parish Festival Committee meets on June 29,

2016 at 6:30pm in the Twomey Room. Miluska and Nallely

are accepting registrations after the 9:00AM and 12NN

Masses. We accept Cash, Check and Credit or Debit Cards

Payments. English Classes start on August 31, 2016

(Wednesday) and Spanish Classes (Thursday) start on

September 1, 2016 at 6:00PM. The Parish Office also will

be accepting registrations during Office hours.

We, at St. Vincent de Paul want to thank you

for your continuous support! Canned goods,

juices, snacks, peanut butter, soap, and

bathroom tissue are always needed. All

items can be dropped off in the red bucket.

Do you love to sing? Have you ever thought

about singing in the choir? Do you play any

instrument? The English Mass Choir is looking

for more people to join. If interested, please call

the Parish Office.

Reflexión:

Nuestra Primera Lectura y Evangelio algo tienen una

semejanza.

a Elías.

oficina.

Our Parish is holding the Diocesan

Pro-Life Gathering Saturday, August

20th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Featuring world famous

pro-life speaker Stephanie Gray! Mass with the Bishop at

8:30am. Please RSVP at http://scddec.org/respect-life so

we know how many lunches to prepare! For questions or

to get involved in our parish Respect Life Committee,

Let’s pray for our Pastor…

O Jesus, our great High Priest, hear our

humble prayers on behalf of your Priests. Give

them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope and a

burning love which will ever increase in the

course of their priestly life.

In their loneliness, comfort them. In their

sorrows, strengthen them. In their frustrations, point out

to them that it is through suffering that the soul is

purified, and show them that they are needed by the

Church; they are needed by souls; they are needed for the

work of redemption.
