Did you know we have an Outreach
Committee? They do wonderful things for our Parish as
well as our local community. They support the St Martin
Men's Shelter in Seattle and the Food Bank and
Pregnancy Aid here in Des Moines. Our Outreach has a
volunteer who sends cards with thoughts and prayers to
our parishioners who are home bound. With the money
donated they purchase items for the Men' Shelter,
including razors, tooth brushes, tooth paste and foot
powder. Several times a year they ask for underwear
and warm socks, gloves, scarves and hats for the men.
These ladies cannot continue to do this ministry without
your help. On the back side of your envelope there is a
line for Outreach/Funerals. A portion of your donation
can be allocated to this cause. Please prayerfully consider
the possibility of giving a little once a month or so.
The Parish Office will be closing
at Noon on Wednesday November 22, 2017 and will
reopen Monday November 27, 2017 at 8:00am. The
Parish Office staff wishes all of our parishioners a very
Happy Thanksgiving. Knights of Columbus Corner

Our class this week will cover the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Remember it is never too late to join us. Just give me a call at the office for more details. There is always room at the Lord's Table.
We wish a happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you! Please take time with your children and families to tell them how grateful you are to God for having you in their lives. Families should never be taken for granted. We are sorry to have had to cancel class due to weather; we felt it was safer that way. The first half of the students made their First Penance and Reconciliation on November 16th. The second half will have rehearsal on Monday, November 27, in the Church from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Parents, please drop off and pick up your student in the Church. The Reconciliation Service will be at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2017 beginning at 7:00 pm. You must arrive by 6:45 pm. If you arrive after the Gospel, you will need to make an appointment with Father Steve to make your First Confession. In class tomorrow we will be talking about what it means to be thankful for and remember to thank God daily for all of our blessings. There will be NO PARENT CLASSES on November 27 due to the Blood Drive. Our last class of the year will be on December 4th. The reason we are ending a week early is due to Our Lady of Guadalupe. If your student attends the Rosary for Our Lady of Guadalupe, look for Miss Isabel or your teacher to get a special Holy Card.
PRE-BAPTISM CLASSES Holy Mother Church strongly encourages parents to have their babies baptized within the first few weeks of life. The baptism preparation classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office.
Next classes: January 10th (English)
Diciembre 2° (Español)
Parents and godparents are required to attend.

We hope you can join us next Wed., Nov. 22nd at 8:45 AM as the 3rd grade students present the Thanksgiving Paraliturgy. The Paraliturgy includes a wonderful dramatization of how Thanksgiving started, which includes great costumes. It is a wonderful way to reflect on this special holiday. Want to help out those in need during the upcoming holidays? Why not consider taking part of SCRIP with Heart? Many families in the St. Philomena School and Parish are struggling to make ends meet. As hard as it is for some of us to imagine, we have families who receive food stamps, use the Food Bank as a source for feeding their families and live in subsidized housing. You can bring hope to these families and make a difference in their lives, by giving to SCRIP with HEART. When you are buying SCRIP, please consider buying an extra gift card for groceries or gas that will be distributed to these families anonymously. All purchases go into the SCRIP with HEART account and are distributed equally to those families in need. Please have a HEART!! The St. Philomena School community would like to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. We appreciate the blessing the parish is to our school and we are very grateful and thankful for all you do!! We offer this Thanksgiving prayer to you:
Lord God of all creation,
we give you thanks not only with our lips, but with our heart and mind and soul.
Every day is a gift. Every day is a blessing.
Open our eyes to see your living presence in each other.
Help us grow stronger each day, in faith, hope and love.
We ask this through Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
forever and ever. Amen.
