A memorial for Marjory Foley will be held on August

8th 2:00 p.m. at UCC Congregational Church in The

Dalles. Following the memorial, the family would like

to invite you to a reception to celebrate the lives of

Tom and Marjory at Spooky’s.

Father Steve Garza –short biography

Saint Peter Parish, The Dalles Oregon

I am the oldest of five children. I was born in Oxnard,

California and baptized a Catholic when I was a month old.

My father was from Corpus Christi, Texas. He took me and

my mother with him to Texas when I was three months old

so I grew up in Corpus Christi. I attended Catholic School

through the 8th grade and had to switch to public school

when my parents separated. By the time I was halfway

through the tenth grade my mother and father divorced and

my mother and all five children moved back to Oxnard, CA.

I finished High School there and went to Humboldt State

University and earned a degree in Forest Management. I

worked for the United States Forest Service for 35 years.

About 9 years into my career I transferred to a job on

another district in California and my future wife, Maria,

transferred there from Oregon about a month after I got

there. We were married about a year after we met and

were married for 21 years. We moved to Oregon about a

year after we were married. She died of cancer. I had

thought of being a priest when I was in 7th and 8th grade. I

discerned a vocation to the priesthood and Bishop Cary

accepted my vocation in the Diocese of Baker, Oregon. I

attended Seminary for 5 years at Pope Saint John XXIII in

Massachusetts. I was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop

Cary on June 27, 2019, and was assigned to Saint Francis of

Assisi parish in Bend, OR. I became the Pastor on St Peter

Parish in The Dalles on July 8, 2021.

Confirmation Prep Class: If you have not turned in a COPY of your child's Baptismal Certificate we need it as soon as possible. Sponsor/Padrino Paperwork

• Your child is allowed one (1) Sponsor/Padrino.

• A COPY of their Confirmation Certificate.

• If they are married, they need to have been married in the church, so we will need a COPY of a marriage certificate issued by the church.

• We will also need a letter from the Pastor of the church that they attend stating that they are active and practicing and he gives his permission for them to be a Sponsor/Padrino,

¿Eres pastor o eres una oveja? Hemos visto, oído y quizás hemos aprendido que Jesús es el Buen Pastor. "Yo soy el

buen Pastor. El buen Pastor da su vida por las ovejas. El asalariado, en cambio, que no es el pastor y al que no

pertenecen las ovejas, cuando ve venir al lobo las abandona y huye, y el lobo las arrebata y la dispersa. Como es

asalariado, no se preocupa por las ovejas. Yo soy el buen Pastor: conozco a mis ovejas, y mis ovejas me conocen a mí.

Como el Padre me conoce a mí y yo conozco al Padre. Y doy mi vida por las ovejas. (Jn 10: 11-15) Aquellos que han

sido salvados por Jesús se dan cuenta del gran regalo que es. Nada en el mundo se le compara. “… El Reino de los

Cielos se parece también a un negociante que se dedicaba a buscar perlas finas; Si llega a sus manos una perla de

gran valor, se va, vende cuanto tiene y la compra.” (Mt 13: 45-46.) El reino de los cielos es así, pero las palabras hu-

manas no llegarán a decir lo que es. "Ríndanse y reconozcan que yo soy Dios” (Sal 46: 11a) “Dios, que es rico en mis-

ericordia, por el gran amor con que nos amó, precisamente cuando estábamos muertos a causa de nuestros pe-

cados, nos hizo revivir con Cristo (por gracia has sido salvo), y con Cristo Jesús nos resucitó y nos hizo reinar con él en

el cielo. Así, Dios ha querido demostrar a los tiempos futuros la inmensa riqueza de su gracia por el amor que nos

tiene en Cristo Jesús. Porque ustedes han sido salvados por su gracia, mediante la fe. Esto no proviene de ustedes,

sino que es un don de Dios; y no es el resultado de las obras, para que nadie se gloríe. Nosotros somos creación suya:

fuimos creados en Cristo Jesús, a fin de realizar aquellas buenas obras, que Dios preparó de antemano para que las

practicáramos.” (Efesios 2: 4-10) Todos somos llamados profetas mediante nuestro bautismo. Fuimos creados para

buenas obras, para anunciar la Buena Nueva. La salvación no se puede ganar. Es el regalo más grande y se da a través

de Cristo Jesús. Nada en este mundo debería impedirnos responder a su llamado.

Pastor’s Corner– Fr. Steve Garza- Are you a shepherd or are you a sheep? We have seen, heard, and per-

haps we have learned that Jesus is the Good Shepherd. “I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life

for the sheep. A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves

the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no con-

cern for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I

know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.” (Jn 10:11-15) Those who have been saved by Jesus realize

what a great gift it is. Nothing in the world compares to it. “…the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for

fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.” (Mt 13:45-46) The

kingdom of heaven is like that but human words will fall short of saying what it is. “Be still and know that I am

God!” (Ps 46:11a) “God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us, even when we were dead in

our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ (by grace you have been saved), raised us up with him, and seated us

with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace

in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the

gift of God; it is not from works, so no one may boast. For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good

works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.” (Eph 2: 4-10) We are all called as prophets

through our baptism. We are created for good works, to proclaim the Good News. Salvation cannot be earned. It is

the greatest gift and it is given though Christ Jesus. Nothing is this world should keep us from answering His call.
