TRIDUUM TO ST THERESA – SEPTEMBER 29th, 30th & OCTOBER 1st

This famous statement of Pope Pius X—himself a great saint—was prophetic. When he paid Theresa Martin this extraordi-nary tribute, she had not yet even been beatified! But in a few short years, Catholics all over the world would come to know exactly what he meant. That an unknown French girl, born in a small, insignificant village, would become one of the best-loved saints in the Church, is a phenomenon that cannot be explained in human terms. That she became, with St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of all missionaries, and the secondary patron of France with St. Joan of Arc, is truly a inspirational study for all believers. Join us for three days of prayer to honor this great and humble saint of our time, and draw closer to God. Mass each evening

RITE OF ACOLYTE – SATURDAY OCTOBER 3 Bishop Mark Bartchak will call Permanent Deacon candidate Mark Komula to the Rite of Acolyte on October 3, 2020 at the 5:00 Mass at the Cathedral in Altoona. Please continue your pray-ers for Mark as he completes another important step on his jour-ney toward Ordination to the Diaconate.

The acolyte is appointed in order to aid the deacon and to minis-ter to the priest. It is his duty therefore to attend to the service of the altar and to assist the deacon and the priest in liturgical cele-brations, especially in the celebration of Mass … He may also, to the extent needed, take care of instructing other faithful who on a temporary basis are appointed to assist the priest or deacon in li-turgical celebrations by carrying the missal, cross, candles, etc., or by performing other such duties. He will perform these functions more worthily if he participates in the Holy Eucharist with in-creasingly fervent devotion, receives nourishment from it, and deepens his knowledge about it.

This mission, proclaiming and teaching, serving and sanctifying, is our task. It is the personal responsibility of each one of us as stewards of the Church. All members of the church have their own roles to play in carrying out its mission: parents , parishioners, all Catholics as members of diocesan families, and to the Universal Church. Try to make an action plan to fulfill your role as we enter into fall.
