NEWSLETTER TERM 3 WEEK 8 September 10 2015
PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Members of the St Paul’s Community
Fathers’ Day Breakfast Our grateful thanks go to Clare Salfinger, Beck Hampson and all the parents who generously helped to provide delicious bacon and egg buns for the Fathers’ Day Breakfast last Friday. We were delighted to see so many dads enjoying this special occasion with their children. Thank you also to the Year 6 students for presenting the beautiful liturgy honouring our fathers.
Sacrament of Confirmation: Our prayers are with the candidates receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation at St Paul’s Parish this Friday 11 September at 6:30pm. All candidates and their sponsors will assemble in the church undercroft at 6pm. There will be a professional photographer present during the Mass who will also be available for family photos after the Mass.
This Tuesday the Confirmation candidates participated in their Confirmation Retreat in the parish undercroft. During the retreat, the children celebrated the Sacrament of Penance, walked through the Mass with Father Tim and were lead in prayer and reflection by Mr Yock. Many thanks go to Father Tim, for his support in preparing the students for this next step in their faith journey, and to Mr Yock, for organising and facilitating the Retreat.
Sacrament of Penance Thank you to Father Tim and the visiting priests who celebrated the Sacrament of Penance (or Reconciliation) with our Years 4 and 5 students this Tuesday. It is wonderful that the children are given the opportunity to receive this Sacrament regularly throughout the year.
Learning Journeys Next Wednesday 16 September, PP-Yr6 will be holding Learning Journeys from 3.30 - 5.30pm. This is an important part of the process of reporting children’s progress to parents. The children love to share the work that they have done in class with you, so please take this opportunity come along and experience your child’s learning journey. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the teachers who will be staying back after school to provide this valuable opportunity for parents to observe and discuss with their children the learning that has been happening in their classrooms.
P&F Meeting The next Parents and Friends meeting will be held at 9.00am on Friday 18 September in the Barbier Hall. All parents are warmly welcomed and encouraged to bring a friend.
Pupil Free Day on Friday 25 September Please remember that in the last week of this term we have a pupil free day scheduled on Friday 25 September and parents will need to arrange alternative supervision for their children on this day.
Tim Winton Award for Young Writers Congratulations to Bella Crean for gaining first place in the Middle Primary category of the Tim Winton Award for Young Writers competition. Bella was presented with her prize on Monday night by Tim Winton himself!

Spirit of right judgment and courage, guide us and make us firm in our baptismal decision to follow Jesus' way of love. Spirit of knowledge and reverence, help us to see the lasting value of justice and mercy in our everyday dealings with one another. May we respect life as we work to solve problems of family and nation, economy and ecology. Spirit of God, spark our faith, hope and love into new action each day. Fill our lives

IT NEWS
IT ZONE – Year 6
Currently in Year 6 we have implemented an optional BYO iPad program for our classroom. This has allowed for the majority of students to have individual access to an electronic learning device. Our present iPad project involves students selecting a country with which they have a family connection and moving through a range of tasks related to that country. The first task involves students using the app Pic Collage to create a poster advertising their country to potential travellers. Next, students use the app Green Screen to record themselves as “Getaway” presenters promoting their country to a target audience. Images are superimposed behind the students to make it look as though they are actually in the country of their choice. After this, students utilize Comic Life to create a visual of their country’s population statistics. Finally students use the app 30 Hands to create an information report slideshow of photos with audio narration over the top. All tasks are placed into the app Book Creator to form an interactive book for assessment. The interactive book is presented to the class as an oral presentation. It’s exciting to think what the learning possibilities are when you incorporate technology into the classroom.
