The West Australian Curriculum states:

Management of iPadApps

• In 2018 and 2019 the school will manage all the apps on the iPads through ZuluDesk

• This will simplify the classroom application and deployment of apps to the iPads

• Allows parents to rest easy knowing the school will handle the purchase and deployment of all apps to the iPads

Financial Information &

Insurance

• There will be a 50% reduction in the IT levy (currently $186) forparents with children in the 1:1 program

• An additional $50 will be added to the school fees for iPad appsand ZuluDesk

Parents are responsible for ensuring theirmobile device is insured and has akeyboard and suitable cover. (These canbe placed on your home and contentsinsurance policy).

Setting up your Device

• Student devices purchased through the portal will be delivered to the school in early December and available for students/parents to take home by the Thursday 6th December (last week of school for 2018). They can then be given as Christmas

presents if desired.

• IT technicians will be on hand to enrol Zuludeskonto the iPads – this will reset the iPad.

• There will be a Zuludesk parent information and demonstration session – Monday 4 February 2019

5:30-6:30pm in the Year 4 classroom.

A: Yes. The mobile device will be used as acomplementary tool in the classroom. Studentswill still write and complete activities with paperand pencils. Spelling and handwriting will still betaught as they are part of the Curriculum.

Q: Will individual’s devices be used by otherstudents?

A: No. Only the owner of the device will be usingit. There will be times when students are workingin groups and will need to share content. This willbe done through wireless transfer of documents,photos, videos, etc.

Q: Can student use of the internet be monitoredby the teacher/school?

A: Yes. As students will be connecting to theschool wireless to access the internet, theschool/CEWA internet filtering (Checkpoint) willbe applied to student internet access on theirdevices.

Common QuestionsQ: How will the school assess the 1:1 program toensure student achievement remains a focus?

A: The school will implement a rigorousstandardised testing schedule at the beginning andend of the school year, as well as teacherformative/summative assessments throughout, totrack student achievement. Our 2017/18 data atpresent is showing an upward trend.

Q: Will there be certain apps that students/ parents are required to download for use at school?

A: No. The school will enrol ZuluDesk on each child’s device and will push out the required apps to all students.

Q: What if we cannot afford the device?

A: If a family is not in a financial position to be able to afford a mobile device for their child they must make an appointment to see the Principal, Joanna Noonan, to discuss their individual circumstances. There are also payment plan options through JB Hi-Fi.

Common QuestionsQ: Can students/parents put their ownapps/software on their device?

A: Yes. It is your device and therefore the apps/software that youput on are up to you as a family. We recommend a discussionbetween parents and students when downloading new programsonto the device. It is important that parents manage the appsbeing chosen.

However, we would insist that you consider what areappropriate apps for a Year 4 student. We will insist that appsthat are not appropriate for school, are not to be used at schoolanytime during school hours and kept in a ‘home’ folder on thedevice.

Q: Will you keep us (parents) informed about theintegration of devices into the curriculum? How?

A: Yes, through teacher-parent communication –emails, parent nights etc. and also through studentsbeing able take their work home and show/explainto you what they are doing in class on the mobiledevices. A survey is sent out at the end of eachsemester to track parent feedback on the program.
