HOLY EASTER GREETINGS to EVERYONE! The whole world celebrated LENT through LOCKDOWN! There were two spiritual treasures that happened during this LOCKDOWN event:

First, people in a LOCK mode: we’re quarantined – separated but spiritually connected through prayers; dis-engaged through social distancing – but engaged through texting, Facebook, twitter and sometimes, flying kisses; “stay home” but not bored, yet spending the best quality time together with family. Second, people were DOWN: but they’re down on their knees, and practiced humility as they prayed: “Blessed me Father, for I have sinned!” And absolution comes as the passage to heaven, “Your sins are for-given!”

What a unique and enriching and spiritual LOCK-DOWN LENTEN SEASON!

Then, we arrived to moment of the Alleluia FESTIVAL of LIFE – EASTER! And today’s gospel unpacks the reality and wisdom of the Resurrection of Jesus. The angel said to the women:

“Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, He has been raised!” (Mt 28:35-39)

And the question is: Where is the Risen Christ?

Christ isn’t in the tomb, he’s now the “mask” in your faces to protect you from the COVID-19, because your life is precious in God’s eyes.

Christ isn’t in the tomb, He’s now your “iPhone” so that you can talk with your family and friends, either by text, Facebook, E-mails and Instagram, telling them that you love them forevermore.

Christ isn’t in the tomb, He’s now your “hands” ready to serve others, when you say, “I am at your service! How can I help you?”

Christ isn’t in the tomb, He’s now in your “homes,” to welcome the strangers, saying, “Welcome Home! Home Sweet Home!”

Christ isn’t in the tomb, He now lives in your heart, and becomes the love that will protect life’s sanctity and defend human dignity.

Christ isn’t in the tomb, He’s now the candle in your hands, to light other’s journey and yours towards the Kingdom of God.

Finally, Christ isn’t in the tomb, He’s now here in our Eucharistic table, He invites us, “This is my body, this is my blood, for you!”

The Resurrection lives in us! So, we’re not in LOCKDOWN anymore, but the Holy Easter People, joining the billion Catholics around the world, and joyfully singing: “Christ is risen! Alleluia!”

And now, we are truthfully the renewed: “Visible signs of love of the RISEN CHRIST!”

The easter octave

Easter time lasts fifty days: seven weeks of sev-en days (seven equals Biblical perfection) plus one day: perfection plus! Like an eight-day Jew-ish wedding, or a child who can’t bear to let go of Christmas, birthdays, and school vacation, the Church celebrates the Easter Octave: “the marriage of heaven and earth,” as the Vigil calls Jesus’ resurrection; our new members’ baptis-mal rebirth; our renewal of baptismal vows; our hearts’ “divine vacation” (Latin vacare, “to be empty”), newfound time and space for love of God and neighbor. Make home an Easter gar-den! Adorn the dining table with a pillar candle (your “paschal candle”), a bowl full of water a vase of flowers or bowl of sprouting grain with Easter eggs. Even non-singers can handle the three-fold Gospel Alleluia! Let that be your grace before meals, perhaps with a prayer recalling Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35): “Be known to us, Ris-en Lord Jesus, as you were to the first disciples, in your word, in the breaking of bread, and in everyone we meet.”

“seeds of faith”

There is a brevity, a certain terseness, in the scripture readings for Easter Sunday. Peter’s speech in Acts is built of direct, pointed sentences. Paul’s letters are based on straightforward creed-like statements. Even the Gospel story only briefly recounts what will turn out to be one of the most remarkable events in human history—the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Advertising agents call these encapsulated points of information “bullet points.” Scripture scholars call them kerygmata, or “kernels” of our faith. Actually, “kernels” or “seeds” are good terms for these statements, since throughout the Easter season, we will hear in the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of Paul, and the Gospel accounts of the days following the Resurrection exactly how these kerygmata began to flower, how they continued to grow through the life of the early church. May these Easter “seeds” of faith serve a similar purpose for us, too, so that the life of the Risen Christ will flourish in us and through our witness in the coming days.

O n the first Easter, it seems as if practically everyone

but the enemies of Jesus had forgotten that he said he would rise on the third day.

In the Gospel accounts, only those who opposed Jesus are reported as remembering that he predicted his death and resurrec-tion. They assumed that his fol-lowers would also remember and attempt to steal his body as “proof ” that he had risen from the dead, so they asked the Ro-mans to post a guard at the tomb. They need not have both-ered since the disciples had ap-parently forgotten—or completely misunderstood—what Jesus had told them over and over. Instead, the fearful Apostles were in hid-ing, and the women were plan-ning to anoint a dead body.

However, just as the failure of those closest to Jesus to believe in his Resurrection led to the proclamation of the Jesus's living presence throughout the world, so can we grow in faith and trust in his living presence as well. Though the mysteries of the Faith are not readily understood, we should ask for the grace to believe--to grow in the virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity. With these gifts, we have the power to

recognize the importance of the Resurrection, and how it can transform our lives. Alleluia, he is risen. He is risen indeed.

Sometimes we say that we be-lieve Jesus rose from the dead without really thinking about what we are saying. Take some time to prayerfully consider what it means to you in your daily life that Jesus has truly conquered death and is alive.

De la manera que lo expreses, la pascua es un tiempo para alegrarse porque Jesucristo, nuestro amigo y hermano, resucitó de la muerte. Y aun así las Escri-turas de hoy son menos jubilosas de lo que uno es-peraría para la celebración más importante en el calendario cristiano. ¿Quiénes somos nosotros en la tumba vacía? Quizá la lectura a los colosenses tenga una respuesta. Al entrar a la tumba vacía de nuestras vidas y buscar al Señor, vemos, creemos, morimos, para resucitar con Cristo. “Han muerto, y su vida está escondida con Cristo en Dios” (Colosenses 3:3) Y resucitaremos en la gloria con él.
