Sister Rene Weeks, our Director of Centro San Pablo, gives us the following update:

Many people from the immigrant community in Salem have expressed their deepest gratitude for the support they have received from the Catholic Church and other churches in Salem. About fifty men are still detained and will appear in court for their first appearances soon. They may have the opportunity to be released on bond at that point. A few have already been deported; two of those deported were very active in our parish and we will miss them. We continue to help families with their needs, including assistance in paying rent and utilities. Those who have legal documents have mostly been able to return to work at Fresh Mark after being approved by Immigration. Some families have moved or are preparing to move to other places in the country. Others are currently working in the fields during this harvest season.

We have also helped people get passports for their US born children.

We are very grateful to Catholic Charities for lending us the services of a case manager one day a week and also a bilingual employee two days a week.

Let us pray for all immigrants and for ourselves as we continue our common journey of immigration to the Kingdom of Heaven.

With love, prayers, and gratitude, gratitude,

    Father Bob Edwards

    Father Bob’s Corner .

    Dear Friends,

.. let your faithful ones bless you. - Psalm 145:10

In the Dictionary of Biblical Theology, Rev. Xavier Leon-Dufour tells us:

By a strange paradox, it often happens that the weak bless the powerful, that man dares to bless God. This is because, if the poor man has nothing to give to the rich man and man has nothing to give to God, a blessing establishes between beings a vital and reciprocal relation which enables the lesser one to see the generosity of the powerful one pour out upon him.

Today and for the next two weeks, we hear from the Gospel according to John. The sacred author teaches us about the Eucharist through the sign of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. At each celebration of Mass we have the opportunity to learn more about the Sacred Mystery in which we participate and the generosity of God in giving us his Son. Jesus comes to teach us, to feed us, to gather us to himself. Let us learn again to bless the Lord for this great gift! Many people have asked how things are going with the immigrants in our community. It has been just over a month since the raid on Fresh Mark. Sister Rene Weeks, our Director of Centro San Pablo, gives us the following update.

    Encountering Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration

The “fresh and green pastures” are the new graces with which He nourishes our spirit. Leading us to the Blessed Sacrament, He invites us to drink from “restful waters,” the springs of salvation, flowing from His everlastingly glorious wounds, by which we are continually being healed. In the Blessed Sacrament He restores

morality, nourishes virtues, consoles the afflicted, strengthens the weak.” Mysterium Fidei
