Sunday of Easter
Did You Know?
At different times we are to kneel, sit or stand depending upon what is taking place during the liturgy. Each posture takes on a certain significance within the liturgy. Kneeling is a very humbling posture. The very act of kneeling is to put yourself in a vulnerable position. When we kneel before God we are acknowledging his holiness. After we receive the precious body of Christ during Communion, we are to return to our pews and kneel. The primary reason we kneel is a sign of respect for the presence of Jesus. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) says that “the faithful may sit or kneel during the period of silence after Communion.” At St. Paul Church, we return to sitting after Communion when the Blessed Sacrament is returned to the Tabernacle and the Priest or Deacon genuflects at the Tabernacle.
