6. O pen the beer ball valve slowly. Little if any beer should flow

into the bottle because the pressure is the same in the keg and

bottle.

7. Now slowly crack the needle valve. T he beer will begin to flow.

Adjust the flow to min imize foaming. If there is foam, just con-tinue to fill and push it out the needle valve.

not e: C hill beer bottles prior to filling to further min imize foaming

8. Fill to ~1/2" of top of bott le. Turn off beer valve. Let remain-

ing pressure escape from needle valve.

9. Remove C PF and cap bottle imm ediately.

CleaningT he CP F can be cleaned by flushing with hot water. Sanitize as

usual with iodophor solution.

You will find t he whole operation takes a bit of practice. T he first

time Don and I did this we forgot to close the beer valve (Step 8)

and overflowed the bott le. Anoth er time Don op ened the beer valve

not realizing the thing was all hooked up and shot beer across the

room . But, it do es work quite well if we just slow down.

T he C oun ter Pressure Bott le Filler (CP F) is used to

bott le beer with minimal oxygen. T he procedure is two-

fold. T he bot tle is first purged of air by flushing with

CO2. T he bott le is then filled with beer while maint ain-

ing CO2

in t he headspace.

EquipmentKegging System is required to use the CPF. In addit ion, a 1/4” tee

along with additional gas line and clamps are needed.

SetupInsert a 1/ 4" tee in th e gas line from th e regulator. Run one port of

the tee to on e of th e ball valves of th e CPF. Run the oth er port of

the tee to the gas-in quick disconnect. Conn ect the other ball valve

of the CPF t o the dispensing line from the keg. C lamp all connec-

tions.

Operation

Th e beer mu st be cold (~40°F).

1. Turn off the 3 valves (both ball valves and t he n eedle valve).

2. Adjust the regulator pressure to 10-14 psi.

3. Insert the C PF into th e beer bottle and adjust the rubber stopper

so that the stainless steel tubing is ~1/4" off the bottom of the

bott le. Push the stop per into the neck firmly.

not e: T he CPF is designed for 12 oz longneck bott les. If you wish

to fill shorter bottles, you will need to cut the 1/4" stainless tubing.

If you wish to fill very tall bott les like champagn e bott les, simply

attach a piece of vinyl tubing to the end of the 1/4" stainless tubing.

4. O pen the needle valve and crack the CO2

ball valve to flush th e

bott le for ~10 seconds to p urge the air. You shou ld hear gas exitin g

the needle valve.

5. C lose the needle valve. C lose th e C O2

valve.
