• Agreement for Institutional Linkage maintained its identity

• & preserved its Catholic ethos

• Education of primary teachers general and special

• Emergence of programmes in the humanities

• Development of postgraduate and continuing education programmes

MISSION

• St Patrick’s College Drumcondra

• a College of Dublin City University

• a Catholic College for the education of primary school teachers

• to enhance its role in teacher education both general and special

• to provide degrees in the humanities

• to promote academic research

• to develop postgraduate studies

• while fostering excellence in all its activities

The College is committed

HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT

• Established in 1875

• Initially at 1 & 2 Drumcondra Road

• Moved to Belvedere House in 1883

• Administration in the care of the Vincentian fathers until 1999

• Alma mater for many Irish primary teachers

• Graduates have made a distinguished contribution to the life of the country

• Originally an all-male College

• Female students admitted in 1971

• Initially a one-year programme

• Before long this was replaced by a two-year course

• Links with the Catholic University were always close

• Eoin MacNeill appointed professor of Irish, 1896
