The people standing, the Celebrant says

Celebrant: We are one in Christ; People: We are a new creation. Celebrant: What was cast down is being raised up; People: What has grown old is being made new. Celebrant: In Christ we have been reconciled to God People: And we have been entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation. Celebrant: We entreat one another and the whole world: People: Be reconciled with God and with all our sisters and brothers.

Opening Prayer Oremos.

Let us pray. Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Collect for the Day Almighty God, govern the hearts and minds of those in authority and mercifully grant that the peoples of this country and of the world, divided and torn apart by sin, may be brought together under your gentle rule. Amen.

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 58:9-12 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Psalm 82 1. God has taken his place in the divine council;* in the midst of the gods he holds judgement:

2. ‘How long will you judge unjustly* and show partiality to the wicked? 3. Give justice to the weak and the orphan;* maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute.

4. Rescue the weak and the needy;* deliver them from the hand of the wicked.’ 5. They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk around in darkness;* all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

6. I say, ‘You are gods,* children of the Most High, all of you; 7. nevertheless, you shall die like mortals,* and fall like any prince.’ 8. Rise up, O God, judge the earth;* for all the nations belong to you!

Demos gracias a Dios.

A reading from 2 Corinthians 5:16-20 From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Sequence Hymn: “Jesu, Jesu” Chereponi

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew 5:21-24 Glory to you, Lord Christ. ‘You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, “You shall not murder”; and “whoever murders shall be liable to judgement.” But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgement; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, “You fool”, you will be liable to the hell of fire. So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Homily The Rev. Dr. Sally M. Brower

Prayers of the People - A Litany of Reconciliation

For the hungry and the overfed May we have enough. For the mourners and the mockers May we laugh together. For the victims and the oppressors May we share power wisely. For the peacemakers and the warmongers May clear truth and stern love lead us to harmony. For the silenced and the propagandists May we speak our own words in truth. For the unemployed and the overworked May our impress on the earth be kindly and creative. For the troubled and the unconcerned May we live together as wounded healers. For the homeless and the settled May our homes be simple, warm and welcoming. For the vibrant and the dying May we all die to live. New Zealand Book of Common Prayer, adapted from Buddhist Litany for Peace

Help us to confront one another without bitterness. Help us work together with respect. Make us quick to forgive and slow to remember wrongs. May we see Christ in all our enemies and serve Christ in all our foes. Take away the hatred that infects our hearts. Break down the walls that separate us. Remove the barriers that divide us. Heal our divisions. Lead us from prejudice to truth. Deliver us from paybacks and revenge. Teach us to respect the dignity of every human being. Teach us to love others as you have loved us. Enable us to stand reconciled before you. Litany of Reconciliation by The Rev. Dr. Sally Brower in Reinventing Worship by Brad Berglund

For the hatred which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class, Father, forgive. For the covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own, Father, forgive. For the greed which exploits the work of human hands and lays waste the earth, Father, forgive.

Page 6: ST. PATRICK’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH...Nov 13, 2016  · Jesucristo nuestro Señor, que vive y reina contigo y el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. Let

For our envy of the welfare and happiness of others, Father, forgive. For our indifference to the plight of the imprisoned, the homeless, the refugee, Father, forgive. For the lust which dishonours the bodies of men, women and children, Father, forgive. For the pride which leads us to trust in ourselves and not in God, Father, forgive. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The Coventry Cathedral Litany of Reconciliation

Priest: God the Creator brings you new life, forgives and redeems you, and reconciles you to God and one another. Take hold of this forgiveness and be at peace.

The Peace

Celebrant: The peace of the Lord be always with you. People: And also with you.

The Holy Communion

Offertory Music

The Great Thanksgiving: Eucharistic Prayer 1

Celebrant: The Lord is here. People: God’s Spirit is with us. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to offer thanks and praise.

It is right indeed that we should praise you, God of love, our source and our fulfillment, for you create all things, and in you we live and move and have our being. Your wonder is manifest in land and sea and sky. When the times had at last grown full and the earth had ripened in abundance, you made us in your image for yourself.

And even though we turn from you, again and again you call us to yourself, and in every age, promise liberation.

Page 7: ST. PATRICK’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH...Nov 13, 2016  · Jesucristo nuestro Señor, que vive y reina contigo y el Espíritu Santo, un solo Dios, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. Let

As a mother tenderly gathers her children, you embraced a people as your own to rear them in your way of compassionate love. From your own being you sent Jesus among us, incarnate of the Holy Spirit and born of Mary our sister.

Jesus revealed your care for all you have made, and showed us your way of reconciliation. Looking forward to the joy of new life Jesus suffered the pangs of the cross and in rising again became the first-born of the renewed family.

You sent your Holy Spirit and gave birth to us your church. Your Spirit stays to nurture and to guide us.

Now we join hands around your table, and with all creation we hymn your praise for your unending love, as we sing (say),

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

To you indeed be glory, almighty God, because on the night before he died, your Son, Jesus Christ, took bread; when he had given you thanks, he broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you; do this to remember me.

After supper he took the cup; when he had given you thanks, he gave it to them and said: This cup is the new covenant in my blood poured out for you; do this as often as you drink it to remember me.

And so in this great sacrament we celebrate and proclaim the mystery of our faith.

Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come in glory.

Therefore, loving God, recalling now Christ’s death and resurrection, we ask you to accept this our sacrifice of praise.

Send your Holy Spirit upon us and our celebration, that we may be fed with the body and blood of your Son and be filled with your life and goodness. Strengthen us to do your work, and to be your body in the world.

Unite us in Christ and give us your peace. Through your Holy Spirit, burning as a flame, gentle as a dove, may we who receive these gifts live lives of justice, love, and prayer, and be a voice for those who are not heard. In union with your whole church we worship you, O God, in songs of everlasting praise.

Blessing, honour and glory be yours, here and everywhere, now and forever. Amen. Eucharistic Prayer by Rev. Bosco Peters (www.liturgy.co.nz)

And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses ,as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
