Laudato Si: Caring For Our Common Home

Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience. (217) Please join us as Catholics worldwide celebrate the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’s encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si. We will provide links and resources for personal reflection and consideration, and parish prayer and discussion opportunities. Laudato Si Weekly Parish Discussion Group: Wednesdays 7 PM, May 20- June 24 via Zoom. Please email Lisa Gramlich at [email protected] if you would like to participate, and you will receive the Zoom link and password.

The St. Vincent de Paul Fifth Sunday is This Weekend

For our St. Patrick’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference, everything is outwardly different. Our twice monthly meetings are conducted in our homes thanks to amazing Zoom technology. (Now it’s not just the five year olds that know technology.) All of our interviews are done by phone; no more visiting our clients’ homes in pairs. That is a real loss; we love meeting and visiting with the most extraordinarily positive, hard-working people in very challenging circumstances. And, in this time of COVID, we have the help of five Marin County agencies determining which of over 1,000 applicants will receive grants for rent unpayable because of job loss. We are making sure that our clients have the necessary forms for making these requests. Since the allotment of these monies is a very time-consuming process, we have to wait (with many back and forth messages) before we know who will be helped. We (you) are paying the rents of those not receiving grants. In the meantime, all of our clients need help with food – the greatest need - utilities bills, car registration, insurance, etc. The families we are currently helping include 26 children. We hope that very soon, the people we are serving will be able to return to their work. Until then, though, they really need our help. This weekend, the fifth Sunday of the month, we again have the opportunity to contribute to the SVDP St. Patrick’s Conference through our parish collection. We greatly appreciate whatever you are able to give to help in this greatly needed sharing of our blessings.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

731 On the day of Pentecost when the seven weeks of Easter had come to an end, Christ's Passover is fulfilled in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, manifested, given, and communicated as a divine person: of his fullness, Christ, the Lord, pours out the Spirit in abundance.

732 On that day, the Holy Trinity is fully revealed. Since that day, the Kingdom announced by Christ has been open to those who believe in him: in the humility of the flesh and in faith, they already share in the communion of the Holy Trinity. By his coming, which never ceases, the Holy Spirit causes the world to enter into the "last days," the time of the Church, the Kingdom already inherited though not yet consummated.

The Thomistic Institute Presents “Quarantine Lectures”

The Thomistic Institute (TI), founded in 2009, exists to promote Catholic truth in our contemporary world by strengthening the intellectual formation of Christians at universities, in the Church, and in the wider public square. Dominican scholars from the San Francisco Bay Area are among the associated teachers. St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that God always brings good out of evil. It is in that spirit that TI has created the livestream “Quarantine Lectures.” The live lectures, with post-lecture discussion, are on Facebook Live and/or YouTube. For full information and to register for lectures, visit the website, thomisticinstitute.org/#home-section.

Archbishop Cordileone Launches Podcast In this time of enforced isolation, communication is of the utmost importance. To meet this need, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has launched a new podcast, a half-hour show in which the archbishop will speak to the faithful of the Archdiocese on topics of current interest. Episode 1 of “At Your Word” is now available on Libsyn or wherever you usually get your podcasts. Search for “Archdiocese of San Francisco.” Or listen online at the link: archdiocesesf.libsyn.com/at-your-word-episode-1-051220. Why this title for the podcast? Listen to Episode 1 for the answer—you’ll also hear the archbishop discuss shepherding a diocese during this unprecedented time.

Today, the church celebrates its birthday -- Pentecost -- the sending forth of the Holy Spirit to enliven and embolden the disciples. This same Holy Spirit resides in each one of us and we depend on His ever presence, especially as we navigate these unique times. As I mentioned in my homily last Sunday, plans are being made for the reopening of our church for public Masses. It certainly will not be the same as before. There are many precautions we are being asked to take prior to reopening and there will be certain protocols in place for those attending Mass in the church. As we reopen for public Masses here at Saint Patrick, we must necessarily begin by allowing only a number of attendees at each Mass in order to ensure compliance with social distancing guidelines and other safety protocols. This will require patience as many of you who normally attend I know are eager to return. I also want to thank each of you in advance for your patience and understanding knowing that you may not be able to attend the Mass of your choice. The logistics of how, when and where this will take place are still being discussed. Knowing that if we all continue to do our part in this effort, we will be able to take further steps, gradually, toward returning to ordinary parish life. As time moves on I will be communicating with you via our bulletin and Flocknote plans and protocols which will need to be adhered to prior to reopening. We know that our supreme call and duty is to worship God in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. For nearly three months now that has been tested. Your continued faith and participation in the Masses online have demonstrated your abiding love of God and hopefully you have felt His love for you in return. May God continue to bless and protect us all. I look forward to seeing each one of you in the near future. Until then, stay positive, safe, healthy and happy. Monsignor Michael Padazinski
