  • Seventh Sunday of Easter May 24, 2020

    A Message from the Pastor...

    Dear Friends,

It gives me great joy to announce to you all an emerging pathway to begin to reunite us here at St. Patrick’s. “Do not let your hearts be troubled” (John 14:1) was what Our Lord Jesus said just a couple of weeks ago in the Gospel. As we undertake this next step, to open our church, we all place ourselves in His care.

To help to prepare us for this return, I have summarized key points to be aware of. A more detailed set of guidelines for returning to Church has been published on the parish website, www.stpatricksrutland.org.

Late Monday, we received guidance from the Diocese of Worcester and the State on implementing proper procedures in returning to Mass in the Church as early as this weekend, May 23rd & 24th. To return requires many new adjustments that require proper planning to ensure safety – both through volunteers helping out and proper procedures implemented. To that end, as a number of other parishes are doing, we will wait for the beginning of Sunday Masses until Pentecost Weekend May 30th & 31st. Weekday public Masses will begin from the Church on Tuesday May 26th at 8am. This will provide the time needed to be sure our safety procedures are in place.

From the outset, let me make something very clear: Due to COVID-19, Bishop McManus has suspended our Sunday Obligation to physically attend Mass until December 31, 2020. With this in mind, we will continue LIVESTREAMED MASSES at least through the end of the year. If for any reason you prefer to stay at home, if you are in an “at-risk” category, or certainly if you are feeling ill, livestreamed Mass will remain a very legitimate option. The prayer of Spiritual Communion will continue to be said before the distribution of Holy Communion so that anyone at home may still participate. Please, do not let any of these movements forward be a point of anxiety for you and your loved ones. If staying home is the best option for you, please do so without reservation or interior conflict. You know what is best for your situation.

Further, as you may be aware, the Church may operate up to 40% capacity so long as social distance is maintained. Looking at our Church, we will not be able to get near 40% because of the tightness of the pews. Because of this, for every 1 pew we use, 2 are taped off for proper social distancing. This is not ideal for capacity, but it will maintain safety while attending Mass.

We will have 14 pews in the Church available. Families of the same household will be able to sit together (ex. family of 5, a couple, etc.) but anyone not of the same household must social distance. If we reach capacity within the Church, we have made provisions for overflow at the Parish Center.

Masks will be mandated for all Masses, only with exceptions for a medical or disabling condition. Please bring your own mask as we will have a very limited supply to share. Please also consider bringing your own hand sanitizer. We will have sanitizer available, but it is always a good option to have your own.

We are also in need of volunteers for the following roles to help keep our community safe. Signups are available on the Parish webpage at https://stpatricksrutland.org/parish-volunteer-help (Or call the Parish Center at 508-886-4984):

A Hospitality minister for each Mass to handout a bulletin upon request. Help with cleaning pews, bathroom surfaces, handles and other high touch areas.

Gloves will be provided and must be worn. Ushers who will be responsible for making sure masks are worn, people are proper ly socially

distanced for seating, directing parishioners one row at time for reception of Holy Communion – while making sure each parishioner receives sanitizer before receiving Communion.

If you are an Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, or Sacristan and would like to be on the schedule as we resume Public Masses, please sign up at https://stpatricksrutland.org/parish-volunteer-help (click here) or call the Parish Office, 508-886-4984.

Please, as an act of charity to our parish family, should anyone experience any symptoms of the Virus, do not come to Mass until you are well.

Going forward, once we start the Weekend Mass schedule on May 30th, the Saturday Daily Mass that was at 11:00 am will be discontinued with the resumption of a normal weekend schedule. Confessions will remain drive thru style, from 3:30-4:30pm in the back parking lot.

Please continue to pray for one another in this time of pandemic and know we will be praying for you. Thank you for all of your patience and for your continued support of our Parish as we celebrate the love and joy of

our Lord. God Bless, Fr. Jim

  • Seventh Sunday of Easter - Readings

    First Reading: ACTS 1:12-14 (59A)

After Jesus had been taken up to heaven, the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away.

When they entered the city, they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

    Responsorial Psalm: Ps 27:1,4, 7-8

I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord In the land of the living.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? The LORD is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid? One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, That I may gaze on the loveliness of the LORD and contemplate his temple. Hear, O Lord, the sound of my call; have pity on me, and answer me. Of you my heart speaks; you my glance seeks.

Second Reading: 1Peter 4:13-16 Beloved: Rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly. If you are insulted for the name of

Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as an intriguer. But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the name.

    Alleluia: JN 14:18 Alleluia! Alleluia!

I will not leave you orphans, says the Lord. I will come back to you, and your hearts will rejoice.

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

    Gospel: JN 17:1-11a

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him. Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.

“I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that every-thing you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have be-lieved that you sent me. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glorified in them. And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you.”

    An Act of

    Spiritual Communion

    My Jesus,

I believe that You are present

    in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment

    receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

    Amen

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

    St. Michael the Archangel,

    defend us in battle.

    Be our protection

    against the wickedness and

    snares of the devil.

    May God rebuke him,

    we humbly pray;

    and do Thou, O Prince

    of the Heavenly Host,

    by the Power of God,

    cast into hell Satan

    and all the evil spirits

    who prowl about the world

seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Pray for us, Holy Mother of God Who have recourse

    to thee

Prayer In Time of Pandemic O God, whose Only Begotten Son bore the weight of human suffering for our salvation, hear the prayers of your Church for our sick brothers and

sisters and deliver us from this time of trial. Open our ears and our hearts to the voice of your Son: Be not afraid, for I am with you always. Bless all doctors and nurses, researchers and public servants; give us the wisdom to do what is right and the faith to endure this hour, that we

might gather once again to praise your name in the heart of your Church, delivered from all distress and confident in your mercy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
