Hour of Prayer for Vocations to Priesthood

and Religious Life Sunday, November 3, 3:00 – 4:00 pm

Three churches, one in each of the three counties of the Archdiocese, will be open for a special Holy Hour of Prayer for Vocations to Holy Orders and Religious Life on the first Sunday in November. All are welcome to attend at whatever venue is convenient, and to join in this important campaign of prayer.

St. Sebastian, 373 Bon Air Rd., Greenbrae Star of the Sea, 4420 Geary Blvd., San Francisco St. Pius, 1100 Woodside Rd., Redwood City.

Saturday, November 2, is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed — All Souls’ Day. The month of November is dedicated to remembrance of and

prayer for the dead. All Souls envelopes are available throughout the month of November.

St Patrick Seminary Second Collection Next Week

We all understand the importance of priests in our faith. For over a century, St Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park, California has been preparing men for the Roman Catholic priesthood. At a time when well prepared priests are needed more than ever, we are blessed with an encouraging enrollment of men. With great blessings and opportunities, however, come great challenges. The Seminary needs your support to continue providing outstanding academic programs and nurture the formation of priests for the Church. Jerald Geronimo, a seminarian from St. Patrick’s Seminary, will speak on vocations at all Masses next Sunday.

T he story of my priestly vocation? It is known above all to God. At its deepest level, every vocation to the priesthood is a great mystery; it is a gift which infinitely transcends the individual.

Faced with the greatness of the gift, we sense our own inadequacy.

A vocation is a mystery of divine election: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide” (Jn 15:16).

— from “Gift and Mystery”, Pope John Paul II

The Journey of Faith: Inquiry Do you have questions about faith, religion, and the Catholic Church? Would you like to deepen and enrich your experience of Holy Mass and the Sacraments? Are you curious about the many forms of prayer which are part of our Catholic tradition? Perhaps you are considering Baptism in the Catholic Church, or were baptized in a Christian church of a different denomination. Or perhaps you are a baptized Catholic who has not yet received the Sacraments. If these questions ring a bell or strike a chord in you or someone you know, St. Patrick Parish is offering a special Inquiry event just for you.

Becoming Catholic: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Adults considering entering the Catholic Church follow a process known as RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.) RCIA offers an opportunity to come together to learn more about the faith. There are four stages: Inquiry, Catechumenate, Purification/Enlightenment, and Mystagogy. Each participant is on their own unique faith journey. Together, in community, we pray, share, and learn about the Church as each progresses through the stages of RCIA. RCIA meet on Monday evenings at St. Patrick Church from 6:30-8 PM.

OCTOBER MASS COUNT

Ushers will be taking the Mass count during

the Offertory.

This count is required by The Archdiocese.

Protecting Children from Pornography: A Resource for Parents

Do you have school-age children? It is a sad fact, but the average age of first exposure to pornography is now eight years old. Anyone with a portable screen (a cell phone) is a potential victim – those who produce porn are constantly looking for new ways to sneak onto your child’s phone. There is a great (free) resource available:

Every parent is encouraged to check out information on protecting children at the website virtueinmedia.com
