Psalm 23: The Lord Is My Shepherd

Psalm 23 has two themes: the figure of a shepherd who

lovingly cares for his flock and that of a host who

shows generosity to the guest.

In today’s gospel, when Jesus got

out of the boat, a large crowd was

waiting for him. And “he pitied

them, for they were like sheep

without a shepherd.” In Jeremiah

we have a warning against

shepherds who allow the flock to

be scattered and a promise of good

shepherds in the future. It is no surprise that the

Church as chosen Psalm 23 with its image of the Lord

as our shepherd, as the responsorial psalm.

Are we in the crowd in need of care or one

of the disciples in need of rest?

Did you know that today in Yellowstone County, 400 children are placed out of their homes due to abuse or neglect? CASA of Yellowstone County (Court Ap-pointed Special Advocates) is a group of community volunteers who speak up for

abused and neglected children in Yellowstone County. The CASA concept is based on the commit-ment that every child has the right to a safe, perma-nent home. CASA volunteers are appointed by the courts to gather accurate and complete information about the child’s circumstances, serve as the child’s advocate in all facets of the child protection system, and make objective recommendations in the best interest of the child. Volunteers receive training and work with just one or two cases at a time. They make a commitment to spend 5-15 hours a month for at least 18 months. CASA volunteers make a dif-ference, one child at a time. Visit www.yellowstonecasa.org for more information.

Healthy & Safe Swimming

Pools, water parks, hot tubs/spas, splash pads, and water playgrounds are great places to have

fun, be active, or just relax. Having fun while you swim this summer means knowing how to stay healthy and safe while enjoying the water! Swimming is one of the most popu-lar sports activities in the United States. Just 2.5 hours of water-based (or other forms of) physical activity per week has health benefits; we each need to do our part to minimize the risk of illness and injury. Recreational water illnesses can be caused by germs spread by swal-lowing, breathing in mists or aerosols of, or having contact with contaminated water in swimming pools, hot tubs/spas, water playgrounds, lakes, rivers, or oceans. RWIs can be a wide variety of infections, in-cluding gastrointestinal, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, neurologic, and wound infections. To prevent illness: •Stay out of the water if you have diarrhea. • Shower before you get in the water. •Don't go the bathroom in the water. •Don't swallow the water. • Take kids on bath-room breaks. •Check diapers, and change them in a bathroom or diaper-changing area—not poolside—to keep germs away from the pool. •Reapply sunscreen. •Drink plenty of fluids.

Weekly Reflection Mark 6:7-13

Jesus gave the Twelve Apos-tles a remarkable mission. He sent them out two by two to preach repentance, to cast out evil spirits, and to heal the sick. And he made them do it in a spirit of complete dependence upon God. These men-who did not even have the witness of other apostles or saints to inspire or give them cour-age, and who had not yet behold the Resurrection of the Lord-stepped out into the world with literally nothing but their faith in this man named Jesus. And look what happened! “The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.” The apostles’ trust in God’s power to work these miracles through their hands began with trust in God’s power to provide for their own needs. This experience bolstered their faith and encouraged them in their mission. When we find ourselves questioning whether we really have “the power” to do what God wants us to do, then we ought to step back and try to depend a little more directly upon God’s providence. Surrendering this element of care for ourselves allows God to meet our needs him-self. And when he does, our faith will flourish too.

AN HOUR OF POWER! Prayer is needed in this world! All we have to do is watch television programs and the news reports to see what this world has become. There is an hour of powerful prayer available for everyone in need through the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel of Billings. (located at the SHRC, 26 Wyoming Ave) Consider spending an hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. We all need prayers. Our family needs prayers! Let us also thank God and ask for His Blessing! There is an urgent need to fill open hours… Prayerfully consider accepting God’s call to pray! Call Kath-leen at: 690-7263, email to: [email protected]

Questions of the Week

Theme: We work together to share the Good News of Jesus.

Question for Children: To whom would you announce the Good News about Jesus. Who do you think most

needs to hear this message?

Question for Youth: When Jesus sent the disciples out, he was preparing them for the future when he would be gone. How are you growing in your own faith and pre-paring for a life as a Christian disciple?

Question for Adults: Why do you think Jesus sent them out two by two, rather than alone?

Stewardship Thoughts

“He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick – no food, no sack, no money in their belts.” (Mark 6:8) How different we are from the Apostles who took nothing when they ventured out to serve God. Today, we make our journey through life more difficult be-cause of all the material baggage that we drag along. Yet, the more we can let go of, the freer we are to serve God with love and joy.

Mass of the Anointing of the Sick

Friday July 17, 12:10 Mass The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait

until a person is seriously ill or in a weakened condi-

tion. Anyone who has difficulties associated with old

age, chronic illness, undergoing surgery should re-

ceive the spiritual effects of this sacrament.

LaVie, an early pregnancy medical clinic, is looking to hire a full-time receptionist to work at both our heights and west end clinics, M-F

and one Saturday a month. Experience preferred. Duties include excellent customer service, answer-ing phones, filing, and other basic secretarial duties found in a medical office. Applicant must have com-puter knowledge to include Microsoft Word and Excel, and comply with LaVie’s Statement of Faith. LaVie provides an outstanding Christian based work environment. Wage DOE.
