SACRAMENTS FAITH FORMATION

Deacon’s Corner

Welcome to St. Patrick’s Church! Prayer of Hospitality

Lord Jesus, you welcomed all who came into your presence. May we reflect that same spirit through the gift of hospitality. As we greet people today, may they hear your

voice in our words; as we meet them, may we recognize your presence within them; and as we create a place for one another at the Eucharistic table, may we discover the joy of serving you in others. Amen

A Healthy Soul

Grocery shopping with my wife, Cindy, is like taking a seminar on nutrition. I will

pick up a box of something that looks good, and she’ll say; “What is the fat content? Are there trans-fats? What is the calorie count per serving?” I have to confess that if she weren’t

the nutrition cop in my life, I’d look like the Michelin man!

More important than making good choices in the grocery store is thinking care-

fully about the food we digest for a healthy soul. I love the verse in Jeremiah that says; “When I found your words, I devoured them; they became my joy and the happiness of my

heart…” (16:15)

When we read the Bible, we have to be doing more than checking it off our daily

to-do list. We have to read the words slowly and digest it. A thoughtful absorption of God’s

Word with quiet reflection on its effect in our lives, is high in nutrition. The Bible provides all the ingredients we need to thrive spiritually. Here are a few examples;

A direct connection to the health of our soul;

Brain food that helps us make wise and discerning decisions; It’s a daily check-up revealing what matters most in our hearts;

Preventive medicine keeping us from sin; A spiritual shower of peace, hope and comfort we need in our lives;

God’s Word provides all the nourishment that we need if we are growing in our faith. If we do not feast on it, we may not experience how vibrant our faith could

be. Like Jeremiah, devour God’s Word, it’s a spiritual feast!

Together through prayer and service,

Deacon Mike

4 Signs

Kitchen Safety 70% of children that die from accidents are under the

age of 5. The kitchen is an especially dangerous place for children

1) Best not to leave your stove unattended when in

use. Keep children away from stove. 2) Keep handles facing in so kids can’t grab and pull

on.

3) Keep all appliances away from water. 4) Be careful with tablecloths, children can tug on

cloth and pull heavy dishes, utensils, or even burn-ing candle.

5) Do not let your child remove items from the micro-

wave. They can spill or taste an item that is too hot and scald themselves.

If you need help checking or installing a smoke detector, please contact the THFD at 244-2803.

Eucharist Adoration is the spiritual practice of

spending time in the presence of the exposed Host.

One of the things that most

identifies us as Catholics is our belief in the Eucharist as the

Real

Presence of Christ.

Eucharistic Adoration provides us with a chance to be with our Savior one on one. Through

this

practice, we are invited to spend time alone with God in his real, physical form and to bring to Jesus all our cares, con-

cerns, prayers, hopes & thoughts. We set aside a special time, a respite from our hectic modern lives, to create a personal

space in which to meet our God. By doing so, we grow more

in tune with God. We put ourselves in position to talk to him, and also to listen.

Please contact Roni Schmidt #877-4365 if you would like to schedule an hour commitment.
