Renew My Church: Invitation to Second Parish Conversation

Please Join Our Second Parish Conversa on on Renew My Church

We invite you to join parish leadership for our second Renew My Church parish conversa on on October 11, 2020 at 12:30 pm in St. Patricia Church.

From our Pastor,

Our Parish DISCERNMENT AND DECISIONS TEAM (composed of myself, Hank Oszakiewski,

Jackie Stasch, Jamie Nowinski (Principal), Jim Kash, Missy Keegan) presented a Town Hall Meet-

ing last Sunday, September 13th in Church. It included a ‘power pointe’ presentation from the Archdi-

ocese with time afterwards for questions and answers. The meeting took just over an hour and was

attended by 61 parishioners.

Remember: all parishes of the archdiocese must go through this process. We are currently in Wave

IV of the initiative to work out a viable ‘game plan’ for the future of the Archdiocese of Chicago in light

of diminishing resources, fewer Catholics attending services, and less priests. The plan takes into ac-

count both “structural issues” and “spiritual matters.” Structural issues would mean the best use of

existing buildings, staff, etc. in a collaborative way between parishes. Spiritual matters deal with the

ministerial and sacramental needs of Catholics as well as a “New Evangelization”—an outreach like

the newly-formed ‘Alpha Prayer Groups.’

Our team has met a number of times now with the teams from our grouping parishes (ie.Our Lady of

Ridge, Sacred Heart, and St. Linus). We will continue to meet (via Zoom) with them until a written re-

port is put together in a collaborative way and presented to the Cardinal in the Spring for his final de-

cision.

At all Masses this weekend we have been asked to hand out to you a three-page report on the

overview of the program as well as six possible scenarios. WE WELCOME YOUR FEEDBACK ON

THIS MATTER. You can e-mail us, write down your thoughts in letter form, or speak to one of

the members of our parish team (mentioned above). To send the team an email, send to: Missy

Keegan at: [email protected]. Mark your calendars for our next town hall meeting:

Sunday, October 11 at 12:30PM (right after the 11:30 Mass).

Yours in the service of Christ,

Father Marc, Pastor of St. Patricia Church

We would like to inform our Religious Education families that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Archdiocese is asking each parish to limit in-person class time for our

RE students and their families this year. In light of this, the RE Program will be implementing a Hybrid Program Model for the 2020-21 year. Classes will begin on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 6:00 pm.

Each month there will be 1 session that takes place in-person on campus, 1 virtual session to attend, 1 at-home activity to complete, and 1 virtual prayer service. Registration is open and the forms can be found on the parish website: www.stpatriciaparish.com or are available in the R.E. Office and Rectory. Please call the office before stopping in. What will St. Patricia’s Religious Education Program look like this year?

For the convenience of our RE Families, we will be offering two options for our RE Program this year; a Hybrid Program and a Fully Remote Program. For both programs classes will be every Tuesday beginning October 6 at 6:00pm. We ask you to please drop off your registration form in the rectory mailbox any time of the day ASAP. Please make sure your form and payment are in a sealed envelope labeled RE Registration. When you register for our program, please write at the top of the registration form whether you are choosing our hybrid or remote program. If you have already registered, please let us know, via email ([email protected]), or phone (708-599-1221), which program you will be choosing. If you absolutely need to come to the school to visit us in the RE office during regular school hours, you must make an appointment with us first. When you arrive at the school parking lot, please call us (708-599-1221) so we can meet you at the main entrance door to take your temperature and escort you to our office. NOT ABLE TO ATTEND MASS ? Please note the dispensation from Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation continues. The Archdiocese of Chicago still advises that the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions stay at home and participate through livestreamed and televised Masses.

While our parish staff and volunteers will attempt to take appropriate precautions consistent with the advice of public health authorities, parishioners and guests should understand that they assume the risk of contracting COVID-19 any time they enter any public space since such precautions do not eliminate the risk of infection. Thank you.

Mass with Cardinal Cupich is on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am live from Holy Name Cathedral.

DIRECTION Isaiah tells us something that we already know, and yet seem to forget every now and then. He tells us, essentially, that God is God and we are not. When we’re confused and troubled and can’t figure everything out, it might be wise to recall Isaiah speaking on the Lord’s behalf and explaining that God—who is on a much more, well, Godly wave-length than we are—moves in ways we can’t even imagine. Saint Paul, by comparison, has everything figured out. Kind of. At least he understands his calling in life—to magnify Christ in everything he does. That should give all of us the direction we need. Jesus gives us direction, too, explaining to us once again in the parable of the workers in the vineyard that the last will be first, and the first, last. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Cancelled: Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass

The Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass that was scheduled for Sunday, September 13 is cancelled to better ensure the health and safety of all. We regret the cancellation of this celebration, as the commitment of 50 years of marriage is not only a significant and heartfelt milestone for the couples and their families, but for us as a Church. While it is not possible for an in-person celebration this year, we cannot overlook the deep need to honor these couples in their commitment to the sacrament of marriage.

If you are a Jubilarian this year, please reach out to the Rectory! We are still gathering information to celebrate your golden anniversary. We will ask for your name, email, and mailing address to share with the Archdiocese. Call (708) 598-5222 or email [email protected]

Cardinal Cupich will record a video of congratulations that will be distributed to the jubilarians via email. In addition, the Office of Lifelong Formation will issue a certificate in honor of the jubilarians to be sent to their physical home address. It is our hope to celebrate the 2020 jubilarians during the 2021 Golden Wedding Mass. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

We welcome these children who were recently baptized into our Family of Faith:

Nathan Alexander Hernandez, son of Alejandrina

AN UNEXPECTED LESSON Jesus’ parable depicts workers who “punch the clock” at various

mes throughout the long day: dawn, nine, noon, three, and five o’clock. Regardless of when they began working in the vineyard, the laborers all receive the same reward. The reward seems lavish to the latecomers, of course, and shocking-ly unfair to the long-faithful workers. The landowner soothes his most du ful laborers, however, deligh ng in them as friends and transforming their bi er confron-ta on into a reflec on on generosity. The laborers who arrived at five o’clock might have been late to the job, but those who began at the crack of dawn were last to understand the extravagant bounty of the landowner. Seen in this way, the parable discusses not only God’s generosity toward “unworthy” believers, but also the Lord’s inexhaus ble pa ence toward those who thought they had nothing more to learn.
