SUNDAYREFLECTION
JUNE 21, 2020
Would others know that you are Catholic by the way you act and speak? Do you share your Catholic faith with others? Do you defend your Catholic faith when the situation arises or do you remain silent? Do you pray in public before meals? Pray for the strength and courage to be a joyful witness of our Catholic
faith when the opportunity presents itself. Let us become
the radiant light and bold witness that we are called to be!
“Everyone who acknowledges me
before others I will acknowledge before
my heavenly Father.” Matthew 10:32
Happy Father's Day!

And yet, I cannot fathom anything more satisfying than being a father—not as a
secondary calling, but as a primary calling. It should not be an addition to your life.
Fatherhood should be your life. There is nothing more worthwhile than investing
your time and energy into a living soul—a human person with infi nite worth.
I look at my little boy, Peter, who just turned one, and I see glimpses of his mother and
me. And yet he is unquestionably unique, full of a personality all his own. Watching
him play provides endless entertainment, for it means watching a person consumed
with the happiness of sensation and the thrill of discovery.
This is not to mention the obvious excitement on his face when I come home from
work, something I look forward to a great deal. His legs kick, his face lights up with
a toothy grin, and his arms reach out for an embrace. How could anything be more
wonderful than this? It is intoxicatingly happy.
To men with children, I challenge you – no, I beg you – spend time with them. Learn
their likes and dislikes, their passions, and their loves. Invest yourself in them and
cultivate their unique gifts. Make a commitment in your heart never to be the dad
who is more interested in his phone – a worthless piece of inanimate junk that will be
replaced in a few months or years – than his own child. Never rebuff your children with
selfi shness or distraction when they reach out for relationship.

God our Father, We give you thanks and
praise for fathers young and old.
We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their
vocation; May they fi nd courage and perseverance to
balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifi ce.
We pray for our own fathers around the world whose
children are lost or suffering; may they know that the
God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor
and guide us with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great
grandfathers who are no longer with us, but who live
forever in our memory and nourish us with their love.
Amen.
Please remember all Living and Deceased fathers.

Mass Schedule
Mass Intentions
The Rosary before weekly Masses at 9:00 am
(This Saturday's Mass will be celebrated privately by Fr Eric, due to pandemic restrictions)
Five Things to Be Mindful of During the Return Process1. A general dispensation from the Sunday obligation will remain until further notice. The dispensation for the obligation to attend Mass will remain in effect. No one will be required to attend Mass when public celebrations resume. Hence, live stream Masses for parishioners at home will continue.
2. Attendance will be limited. We know restrictions will remain on holding large gatherings, so we are working with parishes to determine the best way to ensure safety. Communications will come from the parish so parishioners will know how many people can attend any given Mass. It is likely that all parishioners may not be able to attend Mass regularly at fi rst.
3. Social Distancing will be practiced. Expect that your parish will have pews/rows that are taped off, and that households, even of one individual, will be asked to keep six feet of separation from each other. No one will be admitted without a mask. Parishioners should take their temperature before coming to Mass. Anyone with any symptoms of sickness must stay home.
4. Liturgical changes will be in place. Similar to protocols established when churches were closing, extra precautions will be taken. Temporary adjustments will be made to how we celebrate Mass and receive Communion.
5. There still will be a risk for anyone who attends a public Mass. Even with best health practices and strict social distancing, anyone who enters a public space should recognize there is a risk of contracting the coronavirus. Improved cleaning will occur at our churches, but no one should expect that they will be any safer from germs than in other public spaces.
More information about protocols and expectations of parishes and Mass participants is available online at https://www.rcan.org/archdiocese-newark-announces-phased-reopening-churches.
The Archdiocese has produced a “Welcome Back” video, available in English and Spanish, to inform parishioners about what to expect as they prepare to return to Mass, available online at youtube.com/NwkArchdiocese.
“As we slowly resume public Mass, it is important that we work together to allow for a safe and
dignifi ed parish environment for all,” said Cardinal Tobin. “Out of love and respect for human life
and health, let us act responsibly and adhere to the guidelines provided by the Archdiocese and our
local parishes.” Cardinal Tobin continues to dispense the faithful from the obligation to attend Mass
on Sundays and Holy Days. Parishes will continue to livestream Mass so that those unable to attend
may maintain a spiritual connection with their local parish. “If you are ill or at higher risk for illness,
or if attending public Mass in the current climate brings you anxiety, please be at peace and remain
at home,” Cardinal Tobin said.
Phase Three continues the dispensation from the Sunday obligation to attend Mass and extends
the celebration of public Mass to Sundays with the observance of all directives and protocols on
social distancing, wearing of facemasks and sanitizing. This includes no more than 50% of the total
seating capacity of the church permitted for a liturgy. Additional information will be announced.
