BACKGROUND ON NEXT WEEK’S READINGS

APRIL 27TH/28TH SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

First Reading: Acts 5: 12-16 During the seven weeks of the Easter Season, the first reading is always from the Acts of the Apostles. Its author, Luke, saw the history of salvation in three great stages: In the first stage, found in the Old Testament, God’s Spirit rises up leaders and prophets to guide the people; in the second stage, found in Luke’s Gospel, the Spirit anoints Jesus as God’s holy one; and in the third stage, described in the Acts of the Apostles, the Spirit works in the Church, fulfilling Christ’s promise to be with us until the end of time.

Second Reading: Revelation 1: 9-13, 17-19 This year during the Easter Season, the second reading each Sunday is from the book of Revelation, written near the end of the first century. Revelation is an Easter book because it focuses on the Risen Jesus and our final victory over sin and death. Next week’s passage describes the call that the author received. He was to convey God’s message of hope to Christians who were persecuted.

Easter Sunday: Jesus makes everything new

Did you see the movie, “The Passion of the Christ?” In that movie there is a very touching scene where Jesus falls as He carries His cross to Calvary. His mother is nearby and as He falls she flashes back to when Jesus was a toddler and fell. In her memory she rushes to pick Him up and comfort Him. Then the scene flashes forward to the Blessed Mother rushing into comfort Jesus as He lays under the weight of His cross. When she reaches Jesus, He lifts up His hand and gently holds her cheek and says, “See Mother, I make everything new.” Jesus has risen and He has made everything new, including us! This is our opportunity to bear witness to that. There are so many people in this world that have no idea what Jesus did for us. Jesus humbled Himself for us, and we are called by His life and His sacrifice to share this good news. During the rest of the octave of Easter it would be a wonderful time to reflect on these questions: “How can we maintain the newness that only Jesus provides” “How can we bear witness about Jesus to those we meet with our words and actions?” “How can we thank Jesus for His precious gift?”

RESPECT LIFE PLANT SALE Saturday April 27 from 8am – 6pm and

Sunday April 28 after the masses.

Resist the temptation to shop for your garden needs. Our plant sale needs you so we can continue assisting moms and dad with their precious New Life from God by supporting local pro-life. The gym will be

filled with nursery quality annuals, perennials, and vegetable plants along with outstanding hanging baskets, and a great selection of the popular Wave Petunias. Invite your neighbors and shop early.

We are looking for helpers on Friday and Saturday. If you would like to help out with the sale or for special orders and gift certificates, call Pat Drury at 839-4028 or email at [email protected]. Check out our Facebook page for pictures: St. Norbert Respect Life Plant Sale.

ST. NORBERT BLOOD DRIVE SPRING FORTH WITH NEW LIFE

Our list of names of the sick has been added to our book, “Prayers for Healing” that is located on a podium in the Gathering Area of Church. Anyone may write the names of those who need our prayers in this book.

You may continue to call the Rectory to have your loved ones names placed in the bulletin in order for the entire parish to know that prayers are needed. After a few weeks we will ensure that their name is recorded in the book in church if you have not already done so.

St. Norbert, pray for us.

St. Norbert Together We’re Better (TWB)

Once again, TWB is teaming up with the St. Vincent de Paul's Golf Tournament committee in hopes of a successful tournament.

When you purchase a gift card of any denomination, and donate it to the Golf Tournament, you can enter your name in the monthly drawing not once, not twice, but THREE times! That increases your chance of winning $100 of TWB gift cards this month.

Our St. Vincent de Paul organization works so hard to help so many in our own community. Let's really show them our support, and at the same time raise money for our church and school. Thank you! If you have any questions, please contact Marie Ponciroli at [email protected].

PLEASE USE OUR BLUE SVDP DONATION DROPBOX!

Did you know that there is a blue St. Vincent de Paul donation bin on our parish parking lot, just behind the rectory? Anything that fits in the opening that won’t break as it drops (such as cloth-ing, shoes, purses, linens, non-breakable home décor, etc.) is SO VERY APPRECIATED! When the bin is full, a signal is sent for pick up and once delivered, a check is written to our St. Norbert Vincentians, to be used DIRECTLY for meeting the emergency needs of those who live within our parish boundaries who are facing eviction, loss of electricity, gas or water service, inability to pay for prescriptions, living without beds, or other such stressful, traumatic events. PLEASE FILL OUR BIN AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!! For items too large to fit, please deliver to the SVdP Thrift Store at #1 Paddock Hills Shopping Center or call for pick-up at 314-881-6006. You are such a supportive, generous parish family….THANK YOU!!
