GRADES: FIRST SEMESTER GRADES WILL BE POSTED ON

PlusPortals BY DECEMBER 28.

**It is the policy of SMHS that all tuition and fees must be current prior to

mid-term exams. Parent(s) will be notified if a student is to remain home

on exam days if accounts are not current. Delinquent payments made prior

to exams must be paid by cash, cashier’s check or money order to be

deemed received by SMHS so the student will be allowed to take exams. If

you have any questions, contact Susan Thibodeaux, bookkeeper, at 753-

9782 Ext. 25 or [email protected].

COURSE CHANGES: Course change requests at the semester will

only be considered for extenuating circumstances. Otherwise, students are expected to honor their commitments to their current classes. Students requesting a course change must first meet with their school counselor to discuss their options. If the counselor believes the request has merit and is possible, students will be instructed to have their parents submit a letter requesting the change with rationale to Mrs. Julie Lechich, Assistant Prin-cipal of Academics. All course change requests must be submitted by Monday, January 7, 2019.

FILING THE FAFSA: Senior parents, the Free Application for Feder-al Student Aid (FAFSA) filing season began October 1. Please file your FAFSA early; it’s possible some financial aid awards letters could arrive earlier in the year, giving your student enough time to make decisions on where to attend college. Waiting too late means risking the loss of financial aid based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Remember, the FAFSA is FREE so please be wary of websites asking you to pay a fee. Also, the FAFSA is the only application for TOPS. Visit www.fafsa.gov to get started.

JUNIOR PARENT NIGHT: Junior parent night will be delivered through an online presentation and followed up with an opportunity to meet with the counselor. The presentation will discuss topics that include graduation requirements, Board of Regents requirements, TOPS, ACT/SAT testing and college readiness. Information from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana State University will also be included. Please be on the lookout for an email from Katie Zylicz, the junior counselor, with the presentation link and dates for Coffee with the Counselor in mid-January. If you have any questions please contact Katie Zylicz at [email protected].

LIBRARY NEWS: All students who earn a 2.5+ GPA for the first se-mester grade will receive a free membership to the New Orleans Aquarium of the Americas, Butterfly Garden, Insectarium, and the Museum of Art, courtesy of the Taylor Foundation. Students who earn a 3.0+ GPA will receive the same award PLUS a membership to the Audubon Zoo. These free cards allow unlimited access for the student and for one parent until August of 2020. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. See Mrs. Don-aldson in the library for more information or at [email protected].

PLACEMENT EXAM: The school will administer the Placement Exam for admission to St. Michael High School for current eighth grade applicants from 8:00—11:30 AM on Saturday, December 1. The Warri-or Club will be selling promotional items in the Commons at this time as well. All are welcome.

REQUEST FOR COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS: In order to assist in college preparation and planning, it is critical that seniors and their parents provide Ms. Montgomery with copies of all letters of acceptance and any scholarship and financial aid awards from colleges and universities, whether or not the senior will eventually attend that particular school. Please send copies of these documents via email to [email protected], or by fax, or in person. The names of the colleges and universities to which the senior has been accepted will be published in the Graduation Program, while a list of the scholarships which were offered to the student will appear in the Baccalaureate Mass & Senior Honors Con-vocation Program. The only way we may publish this information is if parents or students share this information with us. Please provide Ms. Montgomery with copies of acceptance and scholarship letters as soon as they are received.

CHRISTMAS CRAFTS WITH KRINGLE: The SMHS Alumni

Association is hosting a “Christmas Crafts with Kringle” party at the school

for alumni, faculty, and staff and their children, grandchildren and/or their

nieces and nephews. This event is scheduled for Sunday, December 6, from

12:00 noon-2:00 p.m. in the Cooking Lab. Activities will include arts and

crafts for the kids, cookie decorating, pictures with Santa, and lots of Christ-

mas joy! Refreshments will be served. Attendees are also invited to attend the

annual SMHS Band Christmas Concert immediately following the event.

join us for a wonderful evening of festive music. There is no charge for this

concert.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE: The SMHS Jazz Ensemble performed at a reception

for adoptive parents at the Governor’s Mansion on November 6. Each year

the State Department of Social Services’ Office of Community Services hosts

a reception on the beautiful grounds at the Mansion to recognize those who

have adopted children in the State’s foster care system. This marks the third

consecutive year that the St. Michael Jazz Ensemble has provided entertain-

ment for this annual event.

Did you know that Moonlight and Jazz tickets make great Christmas gifts?

Moonlight and Jazz is the band’s unique fundraiser currently scheduled for

April 11. It includes a two hour concert by our very own Jazz Ensemble and a

catered meal by world-class chef, John Folse. Contact Angie Simoneaux at

[email protected] for tickets and more formation.

Dear Warrior Parents,

Thank you for making the decision to send your student to St. Michael. This statement of support means you

recognize the value of providing your child with a quality, Catholic education.

As a parent, your financial support is vital to the continued growth and development of St. Michael High

School. We encourage you to explore the opportunities and events that we offer to help keep our school com-

munity thriving. Please look forward to receiving a personal invitation to participate in the following:

Warrior Fund for Excellence – This is our annual giving campaign that was launched in September. The funds from this drive are used to sustain and maintain excellence in our academic and instructional programs, extracurricular and athletic programs, and day to day building & operations.

Continuing the Warrior Legacy Capital Campaign – This campaign is the building campaign for the school, and will provide the school with an additional gym, new auditorium and stage, blackbox thea-tre, and parking improvements.

Warrior Lei’dback Luau – March 23, 2019 at St. Michael High School. The proceeds from this event provide funding for academic programs and enhancements on our campus.

Corporate Partnership Program – This program offers businesses the opportunity to advertise and part-ner with our school through a variety of outlets.

We challenge you to help make St. Michael a better school every day through making a financial commitment

in support of our school.

If you would like to make a gift, please visit www.smhsbr.org/giving or contact the Advancement Of-fice. For additional information on giving opportunities at St. Michael High School, contact Advance-ment Director, Josh Galasso, via email at [email protected] or phone at 225-755-3618.
