Thursday October 22 Saint John Paul II Pope ndash Karol Jozef Wojtyla was born in 1920 in Wadowice Poland As archbishop of Krakow he took part in the Second Vatican Council On October 16 1978 he was elected pope and

took the name John Paul II His exceptional apostolic zeal particularly for families young people and the sick led

him to make numerous pastoral visits throughout the world He left as a heritage to the Church a rich Magisterium

and the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church the revised Code of Canon Law for the Latin Church

and Eastern Churches and the third typical edition of the Roma Missal Pope John Paul II departed peacefully in the

Lord on 2 April 2006 Pope Francis canonized him on 27 April 2014

Friday October 23 Saint John of Capistrano Priest ndash died in 1456 OFM reformer of the Franciscans and Poor Clares preached devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus sought an end to the Western Schism animated resistance

ONLINE CLASS Registration is still available Pick up a registration form from the cart in church foyer (orange form) Forms with payment attached can be returned to the church office or placed in the collection basket The Online classes will give parents access to the same student text resources etc that we use in the live classrooms Class progress will be tracked

CONFIRMATION HOLY COMMUNION

In the Diocese of Tyler ChildrenYouth who have completed the 3rd grade are eligible to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion If you have a child that is entering the 3rd grade or who has not been Confirmed or received the Sacrament of Holy Communion please register for Faith Formation check online option and fill out a Sacramental Request Form (green form) Information and additional requirements for new requests will be forthcoming

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) Children who are in the Second Grade are eligible to receive this Sacrament If you have a child entering 2nd grade or who has not been to Confession (3rd ndash12th) Please register for Faith Formation (online option) and fill out Sacramental Request Form (green form) Information and additional requirements for requests will be forthcoming

HOMESCHOOLING - Parents are encouraged to enrolled children in the online option for Faith Formation Please complete a Sacramental Request Form (Green Form) for children preparing to receive Sacraments during the 2020-2021 school year

The SMM Food Pantry

SMM Food Pantry 2020 has been like any other year for our food pantry until mid March Coronavirus changed the way our food pantry operated overnight Our kitchen volunteers started making to go lunches (160

-240) every Wednesday morning to give to our clients and because of the restrictions on social distancing and limit of capacity in Peaches Hall we now serve as a drive through pantry

We want to thank the dedicated volunteers who help bag the product we buy from East Texas food bank We also want to thank our volunteers who load clients vehicles(60-80 vehicles per week) We also want to thank our very generous parishioners who have supported the Food Pantry in the past and during this pandemic Your financial support is very much appreciated

We served clients with bags of groceries and ldquoto-gordquo lunches

October is Sudden Infant Death Awareness Month (SIDS) When infants do not have a crib and most sleep with parents or siblings they can be at risk of suffocation during sleep Catholic Charities will provide a free cribette (Pack N Play) to qualifying families Each cribette includes a mattress crib sheet and a book donated by the Tyler Public Library The cribette can accommodate newbords to age 2 Car Seats for infants weighing 4-30 lbs are also available at no cost to qualifying parents For more information please contact our Parish Nurse Kaylene Mongeau RN through the parish office or at parishnursestmarymagdaleneflintorg or contact Catholic Charities at
