    presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them duringforty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, he orderedthem not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. "This," hesaid, "is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will bebaptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

    So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, is this the time when you willrestore the kingdom to Israel?" He replied, "It is not for you to know the times orperiods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power whenthe Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all

    Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." When he had said this, as they werewatching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was goingand they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood bythem. They said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? ThisJesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as yousaw him go into heaven."

    The Second Lesson Ephesians 1:15-23

    I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and forthis reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. Ipray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit ofwisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heartenlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are theriches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable

    greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated himat his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power anddominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the ageto come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over allthings for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

    It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you,Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

    Through your dearly beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord. After his glorious resurrectionhe openly appeared to his disciples, and in their sight ascended into heaven, to prepare aplace for us; that where he is, there we might also be, and reign with him in glory.

    Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all thecompany of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

    before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin intorighteousness, out of death into life.

    On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he hadgiven thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This ismy Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

    After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them,and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shedfor you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for theremembrance of me.

    Therefore, according to his command, O Father,Celebrant and People

    We remember his death,We proclaim his resurrection,We await his coming in glory;

    The Celebrant continues

    And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presentingto you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

    We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may bethe Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant.
