Page 2 Third Sunday of Lent
From the Desk of Father Raaser We live in a very noisy world. We often long for peace and quiet. Many people get up earlier than need be for the benefit of peace and quiet. Humans by their nature are reflective. It is precisely our ability to be reflective and to know it, which makes us different than the other creatures of the earth. People come to Church to make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament during the day to pray, light a candle, and be at peace with the Lord in solitude. It is the most beautiful aspect of our faith. To be able to come to God’s House and be the Real Presence of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. When I come into the church, it is good to so often see people making a visit to the Lord. In our parish, we have the privilege of also adoring the Lord in the Eucharistic Adoration that is held every Monday evening from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. It is a wonderful way to begin the week and end perhaps the most difficult day of the week! In the past, we also had Eucharistic Adoration on Friday afternoons from Noon until 3PM. However, because of scheduling conflicts, weddings or spiritual exercises with our school children, the Eucharistic Adoration had to be cancelled or shortened. I asked people if there would be another better time for the Holy Hour and many suggested immediately after the 9:00 AM Mass. Beginning tomorrow and every Monday from 9:30 AM until 10:30AM, we will have a Holy Hour in place of Friday afternoons. The Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed and then there will be time for silent prayer. It is also the hope that more people will take advantage of the quiet time. There are so many benefits in adoring the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. I can testify to how many lives have changed because of this very ancient and noble practice. I strongly encourage you to come and “gaze on the loveliness of the Lord.” You don’t have to stay the whole time, but know the Lord will bless you and your family. You will find greater peace and serenity to face life, and its many difficulties. The wounds of life will find healing by simply being in the presence of the Lord. If you are at peace and doing better, all of your surroundings are affected. You will notice it at home, in work or in school. People who suffer from addictions, or serious family problems find support and strength by leaning on the Lord for that hour. Also couples in difficulty — one spouse comes or both come together. There is a joy of the soul among those who adore the Lord, a deep and profound joy. Adoration is the most beautiful thing you could ever think of doing. The Lord is here, night and day, come and spend some time in His Presence.

Readings for Next Sunday
FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
First Reading: 2 Chronicles 36:14-16, 19-23
The people of Judah practiced many abominations. They mocked the messengers he sent among them until he grew so angry he delivered them to the King of the Chaldeans. Those who weren’t killed were exiled & became servants. Cyrus, King of Persia, was ordered to build a temple to God in Jerusalem, & he freed the servants as God had inspired him to do.
Second Reading: Ephesians 2:4-10 Paul declares that God brought us to life in Jesus & reminds us that it was not a reward for our good service so no one should take credit. We must remember that it was not our doing, but a sign of God’s mercy and love for us.
Gospel: John 3:14-21 God so loved the world, he sent us his only Son so that all who believed would have eternal life in him. Those who were wicked avoided the light, for fear that their evil deeds would be exposed. Those who believed were unafraid of the light, where it would be clear that their deeds were done in God.

School Happenings:We are watching March very closely; in like a lion and out like a lamb? The St. Margaret of Antioch School family is excited to embrace our March Value of the Month, HONESTY. We will reflect on our relationship between honesty and our relationship with God. During this season of repentance we do all we can to grow closer to our Lord and reflection is the first step. This month we will continue to give because we can via our Lenten coin collection. All proceeds will be gifted to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. We will also be collecting food to go toward an endeavor spearheaded by one of St. Margaret's own. Sofia Papadopoulos, a 2016 alumna is currently volunteering for Meals on Wheels as she and others create Blizzard Boxes that will feed many during the harsh winter storms. Help Wanted at SMS:

Taize Prayer Service - Our Lady of the
Sacred Heart Parish - 120 Kings Highway, Tappan
THIS Sunday, March 4th at 7:00 pm in the Chapel
Everyone welcome! Do not miss this opportunity for meditative prayer in Lent! Taize, which originated in France, is sung or chanted Christian prayer, with musical accompaniment, using simple repetitive words, refrains and melodies. “It is a time to rest in God, to let the words listened to and sung penetrate one’s being.” So says Brother John, a Taizé monk, in lectures and writings explaining what the service is all about. This is an elegantly simple service: short chants, repeated several times as well as short Scripture readings or psalms, and silence a time to be at peace. Service is an hour or less.
