St . Madeleine was born on December 25,1779, in Joigny , France. She died May 25, 1865.
St . Madeleine was canonized May 25, 1925, in Paris, France.
Her feast day is May 25. St . Madeleine is a
patron saint of the Sacred Heart.
She was the youngest child of Jacques, a vine keeper, and his wife, Madeleine.
Her brother, Louis, was a monk. Louis played an important part in her life.
He taught her languages and the classics.
St. Madeleine Sophie Barat was the Foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart.
She wanted to provide girls an education devoted to learning about Jesus and high ideals and the classics.
She became the Superior General of the Society when she was twenty-three and she held that position for sixty-three years.
