PASTOR’S CORNER: On April 11, approximately 35 parishioners joined us for a discussion about putting a crucifix in our worship space. Fr. Dennis Juhl, former pastor and representative of the Archdiocese Design and Renovation Commission gave us a presentation on the importance of the symbols, statues, stain glass windows and art in a church. His main emphasis was the one-ness of the space which is to draw our attention to the divine. The document he used

for reference is entitled, “Built On Living Stones”, a document that guides the building and renovation of a Catholic Church today. Following Fr. Denny’s presentation, we opened it up for questions, comments and dialogue. I made it clear that no decisions would be made that night, but this was the beginning of a process to place a crucifix in our worship space. The goal is to have this completed by our 20th anniversary of the dedication of the new church in 2021. (Hard to believe it has been that long!) I can tell you, I have not heard any negative comments in regards to this proposal. Here are some questions that surfaced. · How much will this cost? It depends on the design, size, material, artist, etc. · How big will the crucifix be? · Where will it be located? · How will it be suspended? · What will the image look like? It should reflect the life of our St. Ludmila community. As we continue this process, many other questions are going to surface. If you have thoughts or ideas you would like to share, please feel free to email, I will add them to the file. In the meantime, I asked those present and those of you reading this column, as you travel this summer, if you find a crucifix you like in another church, take a picture of the crucifix, talk to parishioners about it if you get a chance or pick up a bulletin and share it with me so we have contact information. We will then try to find out more information from that parish. This is an exciting project. It is my goal that as we enter into this process, we do so with respect for the commitment and dedication of the many parishioners who have gone before us, as well as those who worship at St. Ludmila today, so that we are providing a quality space for the future. Say a prayer that we find a balance between all the elements that need to be considered.

May your Easter Season continue to be blessed.

Fr. Kenneth J. Glaser
