SPOTLIGHT ON TECHNOLOGY Many teachers in the Junior High are using Khan Academy to supplement their lessons. Khan Academy is a not-for-profit organization with a goal for changing education for the better. It provides a free world-class education for anyone anywhere. All of the site's resources are available to anyone. Khan Academy's materials and resources are available to anyone for FREE! PTO CORNER PTO would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful Cafe volunteers. We would especially like to highlight those 19 individuals who volunteer in the cafeteria all year and who are not parents of our students! You are GREAT to give of your time and talent! We really could not run the café without you! If you know any of these grandparents, relatives and other friends of SLS please give them a big THANK YOU! Also, please remember- we are having a CONTEST collecting Campbell Soup LABELS until FRIDAY, 11/15. The labels can still be collected ALL through the year. Our school receives free playground equipment, and other goods with these points. DOUBLE points are credited to St. Louis when you use your Krogers’ rewards card at checkout for these food items. CALLING ALL TOOTHBRUSHES! Spanish Club and Student Council are teaming up to collect new toothbrushes for children in need in Ecuador through Timmy Global Health the week of November 18-22. Timmy Global Health is a nonprofit organization that sends medical brigades to Latin American countries. A former SLS student will be traveling to Ecuador as a translator and asked for our help in donating supplies. She will deliver them during her trip this January. You can drop off your toothbrushes in the shoebox that will be in each homeroom starting Monday, November 18th. The homeroom that collects the most toothbrushes will earn an out of uniform day! HOLIDAY SESSION REGISTRATION AT THE YMCA STARTS NEXT WEEK The Holidays are not just for food, they can be for fitness too! Do both with family and friends at the Southeastern Indiana YMCA. The Holiday Session will be November 25, 2013 – January 4, 2014. Registration starts Monday, November 18th for members, and Thursday, November 21st for non-members. Some session highlights: Basketball for 4 yrs old – 4th Grade, Gymnastics and Swimming for all ages. And don’t forget the YMCA Stingray Swim Team for ages 7+ years. Visit our website at www.siymca.org or call 934-6006 for complete session details. RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION St. Louis School is committed to helping all children succeed. We have many ways to help children who are struggling to read, and RTI is one of those ways. An informational meeting about our school’s RTI process for reading will be held on November 21st from 7:00-7:45 pm in Mrs. Amberger’s 1st grade classroom. At this meeting, we will share how St. Louis’ RTI program is set up, and offer suggestions on how you can support your child at home. Please let either Mrs. Kretschmann or me know if you have any questions. SPORTS NEWS The St. Louis 5th grade Red Team traveled to Mt. Vernon to take on the St. Mary’s Wildcats and came away with a 26-11 win. Jack Forbeck and Jon Greishop provided the offensive spark with 8 points each. The following individuals had two points each – Michael Wanstrath, Ben Schebler, Jack Abplanalp, Brendan Imel, and Sam Voegele. The win improved the Cards to 1-1 on the season. The St. Louis 5th grade Red Team traveled to Mt. Carmel and lost 22-12. The Cards were led offensively by Sam Voegele with six points and Jack Forbeck with four points. Brandon Simmermeyer had two points. Michael Wanstath and Jon Grieshop played excellent defense. The Cards are now 1-2 on the season. The St. Louis 6th grade boys basketball team lost a hard fought game on the road to the St. Mary's Wildkats by the score of 27-7. The entire team played great defense and only trailed 13-5 at the end of the 3rd quarter before St. Mary's was able to pull away with some easy baskets in the 4th quarter utilizing a patient offense. Adam Moster got the Cardinals on the board with a long buzzer beater at the end of the 1st quarter while Joey Gutzwiller and Jacob Deutsch added 3 and 1 points, respectively. The St. Louis 6th grade boys basketball team lost a close game to the Mt. Carmel Vikings on Monday night by the score of 22-18. For the second game in a row the Cardinals put together a great defensive effort as the score was tied 12-12 going into the 4th quarter. Jacob Deutsch led the inside game with 6 points and several rebounds. Other contributors in a balanced scoring attack were Joey Gutzwiller with 4 points and Adam Scott, Abe Peetz, Aaron Weber, and Adam Moster with 2 points each. The next game for the Cardinals will be at home on Thursday night November 14th against Laurel. The 5th grade game starts at 6:00 with the 6th grade game immediately after. The seventh grade Cardinals basketball team beat Jac Cen Del Middle School in their home opener Thursday night. The Cardinals were led in scoring by Robert Raver and George Ritter. Kevin Salatin was the team's leading rebounder, and Alex Geers and Nathan Eckstein came off the bench to provide the "spark" that helped defeat Jac Cen Del. All players on the team saw action and contributed to the Cardinal victory.

The Saint Louis 7th grade basketball team traveled to Brookville Tuesday night winning their second game in a row beating Brookville Middle School 27-26. Robert Raver and Sam Giesting led the Cardinals in scoring. Raver also led the team in rebounding and steals. Again, Alex Geers and Nathan Eckstein provided a spark off the bench and helped the Cardinals overcome an eleven point second quarter deficit. The 8th grade Cardinals basketball team opened up their season last night against Jac-Cen-Del. St. Louis was defeated 29-16. The Cards played tough defense, especially in the first half, and had a combined 13 steals as a team. Ian Dickey led the team with 6 points and Will Harmeyer added 5 points. The St. Louis 8th grade basketball team lost to Brookville Tuesday night, 48-29. The Greyhounds full court pressure was too much for the Cards to handle in the first quarter, falling behind 22-4 early. Stuart Lamping led the team in scoring, posting 9 points and 3 rebounds. Chandler Meyers added 5 points and 5 boards. Jack Kellerman scored 5 points and Kyle Siefert led the team in rebounds, grabbing 6 boards. The Cards look for their first win at Mt. Carmel on Thursday evening.
