From Fr. Mark’s Desk: Palm Sunday: Christ became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which his above every name. Holy Week takes us on a spiritual journey that can be jarring. All of the liturgies change rhythm, all of the prayers direct our attention toward something beyond our own reality. Holy Thursday begins with an empty tabernacle. Foreshadowing the empty tomb of Christ, the Eucharist will be become the center of our adoration. This is occurs only after the ritual of washing feet. We cannot adore the Lord and not be at service to our neighbor. Good Friday directs our attention to the Passion and the day, Jesus died. There is no Mass that day. There is no water in holy water fonts. There are no candles to light. The only focus is our Savior on a cross. Holy Saturday recalls the history of salvation and the risen Christ being the ultimate gesture of this salvation. New members are welcomed this night into our faith. Ultimately, the rituals of Holy Week are intended to refocus our attention on what God has done for us. This week should be taken seriously by Catholics and all Christians. The words of the thief on the cross, next to Jesus, sum up our life story: “Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom”. The response of Jesus is the expression of our own salvation: “This day you will be with me in paradise”. Have a prayerful Holy Week! Fr. Mark Walter Our parish reconciliation service will be on Tuesday March 27th at 7pm in church. There will be no confessions during Holy Week.

Jesus told us “whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.” Every day we are present-ed opportunities to help someone. Every day we have the opportunity to see the face of Jesus in others and be the face of Jesus to others. Pray for the strength and courage to stand up for those in need of our help.
