A Note from Fr. Craig

Dear Parishioners, We have the pleasure to host a wonderful event September 13th & 14th here at St. Leo. St Padre Pio relics will be coming for us to venerate. St Padre Pio was from Italy. He was a priest, Friar, Mystic and Stigmatist. He had the wounds of Christ. He died in 1968. He was canonized a saint in 2002. I think we will have 5 relics here. They will be of his hair, some of his blood, and piece of his handkerchief. Please see the flyer in this bulletin on page 4 for the times for veneration. This is a very special event, so we welcome all of you to join us in prayer. We need someone in Church "guarding" the relics while people come and venerate. We still have times open on Monday, September 14. If you are interested in taking a half hour or even an hour to pray and watch the relics, that would be great. If you are interested, please call or e-mail Dina: 402-397-0407 or [email protected].

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness

By: Deacon Jim Shipman

Have you ever been asked to do something and you felt totally in-adequate to accomplish the task? I’m sure Simon Peter had that same overwhelming feeling when Jesus told him, “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.” Wow, no pressure here!

Peter became the first leader of the Church by answering this one interview question, “Who do you say that I am?” That is a question we all need to answer. Who do you say Jesus is? What does Jesus Christ mean in your life? If we tru-ly acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God, then flesh and blood has not revealed this to us, but God’s Holy Spirit.

I’m certain that Peter and the rest of the Apostles had no idea how their lives would change forever once they understood that simple question, “Who do you say that I am.” After the resurrection they all felt afraid and inadequate, but at Pentecost the Holy Spirit came upon them and renewed their faith that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God. Now their only question was how they would serve the Lord. The Lord calls all of us to be part of building up the Kingdom of God. We may feel unworthy and unsure on how to evangelize for God’s Kingdom, but remember that the same Holy Spirit that guided Simon Peter and the Apostles also fills us with God’s Gifts, Fruits, and Virtues that will guide our efforts.

The 54 Day Novena for Our Nation - Every evening at 6:30 in the Holy Family Garden - Starting on Saturday, August 15 (The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) and ending on October 7 (Our Lady of the Rosary). All are invited to attend.

Parishioners Needed to become Lectors, EMHCs and Sacristans

Due to the ongoing limitations on large gatherings, the process will be different from previous years. All interested candidates will receive the necessary forms and link for a virtual meeting via email. Upon completion of the session, candidates will receive training at St Leo on our procedures and then be mandated by Father Craig at a weekend mass. The virtual meetings will take place on the following dates:

Sunday 9/20: 3:00-4:30pm (English) Monday 9/21: 6:00-7:30pm (Spanish) Please email Christy Ziskey at [email protected] or text (812) 327-1362 by September 7 to sign up – thank you!

Thank You! We are so lucky to have so many volunteers helping keep our grounds looking spectacular. Today we’d like to give a shout out to Annette Langan and Hanh Nguyen who have recently spruced up the yard at the parish house along with other areas around the property. Thank you for your hard work. It is so appreciated!
