LITURGY OF THE DAY It is time to take a stand. Just like the faithful in today’s first Reading and the disciples in the Gospel, we must decide if we really believe things that are beyond our human understan-ding: that we are made in the divine image,

that Jesus is both divine and human, that the Holy Spirit dwells inside of us, and so on. When we pray the Creed today, take note of all that we believe, pronounce firmly each “I believe,” and note the assent of those around you who share our beliefs.

Es hora de definir nuestra posición. Tal como lo hicieron los creyentes en la primera lectura de hoy y los discípulos en el Evangelio, nosotros tenemos que decidir si de veras creemos esas cosas que trascienden nuestro entendimiento humano, co-mo por ejemplo que hemos sido creados a la imagen divina, que Jesús es divino y humano a la vez, que el Espíritu Santo habita en nosotros, y demás. Cuando digamos hoy el Credo, pongamos atención a aquello que creemos, pronunciemos firmemente ese “Creo” y fijémonos en cómo asienten los que están a nuestro derredor y comparten nuestras creencias.

When Joshua today speaks of his household serving the Lord, he meant not just those peo-ple who lived inside his walls or those related to him by blood or marriage; he meant slaves or servants and their fam-ilies, and anyone indebted to him in any way. How can we use our time, our resources, or gifts for selfless reasons rather than personal gain? TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE San Agustín, Obispo y Doctor de la Iglesia, nació en Tagaste (Argelia actual) el 13 de noviembre del 354 y murió en Hipona el 28 de agosto del 430. Su padre, Patricio, un pagano de posición social acomodada, que luego de una larga resistencia a la fe, hacia el final de su vida se convierte al cristianis-mo. Mónica, su madre, era una devota cris-tiana. Al enviudar, se consagró totalmente

a la conversión de su hijo Agustín. Lo primero que enseñó a su hijo Agustín fue a orar, pero luego de verle gozar de esas santas lecciones, sufrió al ver como iba apartándose de la Ver-dad hasta que su espíritu se infectó con los errores maniqueos y, su corazón, con las costumbres de la disoluta Ro-ma. Mónica confiando en las palabras de un Santo Obispo que le dijo: “el hijo de tantas lágrimas no puede perderse”, no cesó de tratar de convertirle por la oración y la persuasión hasta lograrlo. A los 32 años San Agustín entrega su persona a Dios, luego de una permanente búsqueda convirtiéndose a la fe católica. Aunque Agustín no pensaba en el sacerdocio, fue ordenado en el 391 por el Obispo de Hipona. Sus obras escri-tas son de las mas importantes para la Teología. (©Agustinos)
