St. Justin Martyr

We hope for many things: passing an exam, finding our true love, securing sustainable work, or surviving an illness. We often seek to have God be a part of what we hope for and desire, almost trying to convince Him that our agenda is what is ultimately important. While our particular hopes may appear to be what needs to be achieved in order for us to be happy, they really are not. Our lesser, more personal hopes can distract us from true hope. When God became a human being, a powerful message was sent: all that is authentically human is found in the divine. As the human Jesus lived and died in order to show us that he truly is the universal Christ, we have to keep our sight focused on our eternal truth and destiny and who we truly are. We have to be careful when we allow our earthly concerns to distract us. True hope is found when we place our trust in Christ’s promises and don’t rely on our own strength. True hope focuses on striving toward the fulfillment of God’s promises and not simply on achieving what we think we need in this life. Hope always travels with two friends — faith and love. In this trio of virtues, we find the very presence of God born in every human being. These are God’s greatest gifts, and they lead us to the fullness of His presence. As with faith and love, we cannot see hope with just our human eyes. We don’t carry this virtue within us to use solely for our own personal agenda. Hope is not something that simply comes with the human package. As with faith and love, hope is a gift that is given to us to draw us closer to our eternal truth. Faith, hope, and love are signs that there is something far greater going on in us and something greater to persevere in obtaining. The true divine gift of hope is what will endure any hardship we encounter, especially those that will come from authentically living the Gospel. With all that is happening in our lives, in our church, and in our world, what is the reason for our hope? Ask God for the fortitude to see His eternal gift as the reason we get up in the morning and do the things we do.

Dear Parishioners,

“Let all the earth cry out to God with joy” Psalm 66

Happy Day! We will celebrate public Mass for the first time in a long time next Monday May 25. How appropriate that it is Memorial Day, a day set aside to recognize the sacrifices of those who served to protect us. We will celebrate Mass in Lambur Hall at 9:00am. The first weekend celebration will be May 30 -31, the Feast of Pentecost. Some things are clear. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass will continue for the foreseeable future. The recommendation for older adults and those with compromised health to continue to stay home as much a possible will continue. Any parishioner not feeling well is encouraged to participate in Mass from home. Any person with virus symptoms such as a temperature of 100.4° F or more should refrain from public Mass attendance. I expect a smaller number of people for Mass than usual. We are blessed to have Lambur Hall, a large facility which we can set up in a flexible manner to meet the needs of our prayer together. The chairs will be set up to maintain the six feet distancing for family groups and individuals. The path for the Communion procession will be clearly marked. One-use sheets for songs and prayers will be used.

There are safety and sanitizing requirements we need to follow. Everyone attending Mass must fullfil the command of the Lord “Love one another as I have loved you” by wearing a face mask. We will clean and sanitize the chairs, restrooms, doors, etc. after each Mass. This will take some time, so we will need to change our weekend Mass schedule. There is still much to be worked out and we are working on it. Please check our website and Facebook the latest information. All parishioners will receive a letter next week with more details, especially weekday and weekend Mass times. For more background information please see the Cleveland Diocese website and its webpage, Forward in Christ, A path to renewing Catholic life. The church painting is moving ahead rapidly. Helping Hands and individual parishioners are caring for those in need. Mass and prayers are offered for the protection of all and an end to the damage from the Covid-19 virus. Thank you for your prayer, your financial support and service in the parish.

Peace, Fr Kevin

Sister Rose Ann would like to say thank you to all of you who sent Mass cards, notes and the many other ways you showed her that you cared, after the death of her sister.

You will remain in her prayers, and she is blessed that she remains in yours… Thank You!!

As we approach the Ascension of the Lord next week, we can pray this prayer: O Lord Jesus, I adore you, Son of Mary, my Saviour and my Brother, for You are God. I follow You in my thoughts, O first-fruits of our race, as I hope one day by Your grace to follow You in my person into heavenly glory. Until then, do not let me neglect the earthly task which You have given me. Let me labour diligently all my life with a greater

appreciation for the present. Let me realize that only by accomplishing true human fulfillment can I attain Divine fulfillment and ascend to You at the completion of my work. Amen. Even though we don’t celebrate the feast of St. Rita due to her feast being in the Easter season, her feast day is on May 22. She is the saint of the impossible, I would think we could use her help during these times. St. Rita hear our prayers! O powerful St. Rita, rightly called Saint of the Impossible, I come to you with confidence in my great need. You know well my trials, for you yourself were many times burdened in this life. Come to my help, speak for me, pray with me, intercede on my behalf before the Father. I know that God has a most generous heart and that he is a most loving Father. Join your prayers to mine and obtain for me the grace I desire (here mention your request). You who were so very pleasing to God on earth and are so much so now in heaven, I promise to use this favor, when granted, to better my life, to proclaim God's mercy, and to make you more widely known and loved. Amen. Confirmation Candidates - Please watch Project YM that happens via live stream on Sunday at 8PM. They’ve been showing some great speakers. Send me an email on your thoughts for worship and speakers. As of now our Confirmation Classes are cancelled until further notice. I’m not sure when we will resume or when our Confirmation will be. Most spring Confirmations are going to now take place in the fall, knowing that information I’m not sure what will happen to the fall Confirmations. When I am given updated information on this I will inform you. Please inform your sponsors of this.

PSR Parents will be able to pick up their children’s books and supplies on Monday, May 18 between 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the school’s gym. Please wear a face covering and be prepared to maintain social distancing. Please contact the Religious Education Office with any questions at (440) 946-3287,[email protected]. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults—RCIA Becoming Catholic Even though the RCIA process is on hold throughout the diocese and here at St. Justin, we are still blessed with several people preparing to receive Initiation Sacraments. While it is unsure when candidates will enter the church, they still need our prayers and support. Morgyn McCalligan will be completing her full initiation as a Catholic by receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. Tim Rosian and Phillip Bowser will make their Profession of Faith, be received into the Church, and participate in the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. Kaylee Datz will receive all three Sacraments of Initiation; Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. And four members of the Argenti Family will become Catholics through the Sacraments of Initiation: Lynn, Elizabeth, Caitlin and Cecelia. Please pray for and encourage all those preparing to be fully united with Christ and His Church. Catholic Humor

“Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. ” — John 14:23

Stewardship: God loves us so much that he never wants us alone or afraid. He gifted to us the Holy Spirit, who is always with us guiding, counseling, comforting and reminding us of Jesus and his teachings.

A second gift we’re given is peace, not the type of peace of this world, but a peace that will remain with us in the face of intense conflict, persecution, rejection and death. The inner harmony and communion that God invites us into is an abiding peace beyond any human effort or comprehension. It is based on mutual love. Pray for a conversion of heart—to be willing to respond in gratitude to His love and commit to being His disciple.

Your support of the 2020 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal helps us to carry out the mission that Jesus entrusted to us: ‘I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least

brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Please consider a generous gift that will change the lives of the 410,000 who are served each year in Northeast Ohio.

As of this date 255 donors have given $34,854, or 62.30% of our goal. On behalf of the poor and needy of Northeast Ohio, thank you! We invite you to view stories of inspiration and more information at CatholicCommunity.org/2020Appeal. If you haven’t given as yet, text CCHOPE to 41444 or visit CatholicCommunity.org/Donate.
