School ReportsReporting to parents is an important part of education. School reports are sent homewith children in June andDecember.

Parent/Teacher InterviewsWeholdparent/teacherinterviewsinTerm1andTerm3.Parentsarewelcometomakeappointmentstoseetheirchildren’steacheratanytimethroughouttheyearandcancontactteachersviaemail.WealsoutiliseanonlinesystemcalledSeeSawthroughwhichparentscanviewandcommentontheirchildsworkthroughouttheyear.

Behaviour Management AtStJoseph’swebelievethateverychildhastherighttoasafeproductive learningenvironment.Behavioursthatmakesothersfeelunsafeorthatdisturblearningarenotacceptable.Wecontinuallyencourageandcelebrategoodbehaviour through our ‘Sparky’ initiative and our student code of conduct.We understand however thatmakingmistakesisanaturalpartofthelearningprocess.Whenachildbehavespoorly,theteacherwillremindthemofwhatisacceptable.Iftheycontinuetodisplayunacceptablebehavior,ageappropriateconsequenceswillbeenforced.Inthecaseunacceptablebehaviorcontinues,parentswillbecontactedandabehaviormanagementplanmaybeputintoplace.

Transition from KindergartenToensurethetransitionforchildrenfromkindergartentoschoolisapositiveexperience,ourschoolprovidestransitionsessions togive themachancetobecomefamiliarwith their ‘new’surroundingsandtomeet theteachersat theschool,thereisalsoaparentsinformationsessionthatcoinsideswiththetransitiondays.NewparentsarewelcometomeetwiththePrincipalatanytimethroughouttheyeartohaveaninterviewandatouroftheschool.

Aspartofourtransitionprogram,FoundationstudentsdonotattendschoolonWednesdaysforthemonthofFebruary.Thechildrenattendforfulldaysfortheother4days.

Excursions and IncursionsExcursionsareplannedforsoundeducationalreasonandmayoccureveryterm.Alevyhasbeenaddedtoschoolfeestopreventparentshavingtopayforeacheventindividually.ParentalpermissionisrequiredpriortochildrenattendingallexcursionsandcampsandissentoutviaCareMonkeywithinformationabouttheexcursion.Ifapermissionnoteisnotreturnedpriortoanexcursion,yourchildwillnotbeabletoattend.

St Joseph’s offer a number of incursions throughout the school year to highlight or build on our learning goals.Information is sent home via the school newsletter, CareMonkey, Skoolbag andOfficial Facebook pagewhen andincursion is coming up.

First-aid / Illness at schoolIfachildsuffersaminorinjuryatschool,staffwilladministerappropriatefirst-aidandapapernotificationwillbesenthome.Intheeventofaseriousaccident,appropriateactionwillbetakenandanambulancewillbecalledifrequired,parentsareresponsibleforanyassociatedcosts.Parentswillbenotifiedassoonaspossible.

Ifachildneedstobewithdrawnfromschoolduetoillness,aparentwillbenotified.Inthecaseaparentisunabletobecontacted,theparentsnominatedemergencycontactwillbecontactedandaskedtocollectyourchild.

Asthma/ Allergies Studentswithasthmaorallergiesarerequiredtohaveanasthmamanagementplanoranaphylaxismanagementplan.Theplan/sneedtobedevelopedinconsultationwithyourchild’sDoctor.Ifyourchildrequiresventolin,anepipenoranyothermedication,youmustsupplyittotheschoolalongwithacopyoftheirplan.Currentplansarealsotobeattachedtothechild’sCareMonkeyprofile.

Pastoral CarePastoralcareisintegraltoourwholeschoollife.AtStJoseph’sweknowthatifachildistohaveoptimumgainfromtheteachingandlearningtheymustfirstlyfeelsafeandhappy.WehavetwoStudentWellbeingcoordinators,EmilySheriffand JuliaStrentzwhoarrangeprogramsandassistance forchildrenwho requireextra supportor specialistintervention.Theyarealwaysavailabletotalktoandarehappytoassistschoolfamilieswherepossible.

BuddiesAtStJoseph’swehaveaBuddy Program. TheFoundationstudentsarepairedwithaseniorstudent.WetimetablevariousinteractionstoallowtheFoundationstudentstofeelcomfortablewitholderstudentsandtohaveafamiliarfaceontheplaygroundwhotheycanturntoforsupport.Thisalsohelpsourseniorstudentstodevelopconfidenceandresponsibilityskills.TheprogramreinforcesthesensethatatStJoseph’sweallcareforeachother.

Classroom OrganisationAt St Joseph’s Primary School, classesmay be organised differently depending on numbers and the needs of thestudents.In2020wehaveoneFoundationclass,oneGrade1/2class,two3/4classesandtwo5/6classes.Whilstthisisanadministrativenecessity,theprincipalandstaffbelievethatmulti-ageformoforganizationisaneducationallysoundapproach.ItisincreasinglybecomingthepreferredformofclassroomorganizationthroughoutVictoriaforthefollowingreasons:· Itassumesandcatersforthevaryinglearningratesofchildren.· Olderchildrenbecomegoodrolemodelsshowingresponsibility,understanding,awarenessandrespectfordifferent

levelsofdevelopment.· Allchildrenareabletorecognizethecontributioneveryonehastomaketowardlearning.· Schoolidentityandunityhasimprovedaschildrenbecomemorecaringandmixwellwithdifferentages.· Inallocatingyourchildtoaclass,alargenumberoffactorsaretakenintoconsiderationegfriendships,self-confidence,
