Transcript of St Joseph’s Primary -...
Dear Parent/Caregivers,
Week 7 has proven to be another jam packed week with the
students continuing with a wide variety of learning experiences
across the school. We also welcome back our happy Year 6
travellers who have some great stories to share about their
experience in Canberra.
This week students across Years 2-6 participated in a Tennis Gala
Day hosted at the Tennis Courts on Sea Street. Thanks to Mr Watts
for his organisation of this experience for our students. The
students participated in a range of activities over the course of
the group rotations.
Book Fair commenced this week. Thanks to Mrs Horner for her
planning of this for our students and families. The Book Fair will
continue until next Wednesday, 30th November. The students
have lots of “wish lists” and are excited about the new books on
display. Please refer to the Book Fair opening hours detailed
within our newsletter.
This week our Year 4 & 5 students participated in a retreat with
students from St Paul’s. Thanks to the staff from both school
communities for providing this experience for our children.
Today we hosted our Kindergarten Orientation for 2017. Thank
you to the many parents who joined us today to successfully
work in partnership with the school to ensure that our new
students are well supported as they transition to St Joseph’s.
Thanks to Miss Daley and Miss Gammack for the wonderful
work they have completed in supporting our Joey’s Juniors this
semester.
Afternoon Waiting Area for Parents: Thank you to our parents
who wait so patiently for the close of the school day for
children to have time for organisation and reflection with their
class and teacher. We ask that parents please wait in the
seating provided in either the Lower Primary Cola or the
Primary Cola. Please respect the need for our staff to continue
teaching until 3.10pm. It can be very distracting for students
and teachers when parents/carers stand outside the classroom
door or windows. We know that you are interested in
your child’s learning and we love that. However, we
are aiming to continue our class routines until the end
of the school year. Your support with this is greatly
appreciated.
Hats: Within the newsletter, at our assembly times and
in classes over the last couple of weeks we have been
promoting the importance of being “Sun Safe”. Please
ensure that your child wears the school approved
Navy Blue Wide Brimmed Hat with the school crest
embroidered on this. No other caps or hats are
acceptable and unfortunately children will be asked
to place alternate hats in their bags and sit in the
shade. Our uniform reflects pride in ourselves, our
school community and our families and as such we are
continuing to work together to ensure that we wear it
well. Please ensure all unapproved jewellery items
including anklets and bracelets are kept at home.
Next Wednesday we host our special Grandparents
Day gathering and our Lower Primary Disco. So much
to look forward to at this special time of year.
On Sunday the Parish Children’s Choir will lead the
music ministry at our Parish Mass. Please come along
and support our children. Also consider at this busy
time of year to make time for reflection and time for
God.
Many Blessings for the week ahead

SPORTS REPORT WITH MR WATTS
The Advent Season provides the opportunity to reach out to
others, and allows us to get caught up in the
joy of the coming of Christ. It is a time of
reflection about the importance of family
and friends and how we can respond to the
presence of Christ today. We can achieve
this by drawing on all of our experiences and resources in an attempt to
create a better world for all.
Advent is the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year.
In Advent we prepare to welcome Jesus into our hearts at Christmas. We make
changes in the way we live our lives so that we can be more like Jesus. It is a joyful
time because we look for the signs of God’s presence in our lives and in the world.

Sport and Recreation’s Swim and Survive lessons
Australian summers usually involve plenty of fun in and around the water, but no parent should forget how important it is to make sure children stay safe.
Sport and Recreation’s Swim and Survive classes for pre-schoolers and school-aged children help youngsters learn important ways to be safe and enjoy our pools, rivers, beaches and lakes. The intensive nine-day programs provide wonderful results and are great fun as well. Plus family discounts make our program affordable for all the children in the family. Sport and Recreation run Swim and Survive classes in pools throughout regional NSW. Our instructors are nationally qualified and screened for their suitability to work with children. Prices for nine lessons are $70 for school-aged children and $50 for pre-schoolers (prices exclude pool entry fee)
For more information or to make a booking, visit sportandrecretion.nsw.gov.au/swimandsurvive or phone 13 13 02.
PRINCIPAL’S REFLECTION
This is an inspirational story about a little girl who had trouble controlling her temper. She not only learned how to control it,
she also learned the meaning of friendship and how, sometimes,
the things we say can actually hurt the people we love.
NAILS IN THE FENCE
There once was a little girl who could not control her bad
temper. So, her mother gave her a bag of nails and told
her that every time she lost her temper, she must hammer a
nail into the back of the fence. The first day the girl had
driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as
she learned to control her anger, the number of nails she
hammered daily gradually dwindled down.
She discovered it was easier to hold her temper than to
drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when
the girl didn't lose her temper at all. She told her mother
about this and her mother suggested that now she pull out
one nail for each day that she was able to hold her
temper. The days passed and the young girl was finally
able to tell her mother that all the nails were gone. The
mother then took her daughter by the hand and led her to
the fence.
She said, "You have done well, my daughter, but look at the holes in the fence. The
fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like
this one." It won't matter how many times you say "I'm sorry," the wound is still there. A
verbal wound can be as bad as a physical one.
Reflection: Your friends are rare jewels indeed. They will make you smile
and laugh, and encourage you to succeed or dissuade you from doing
wrong. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always
want to open their hearts. So, cherish your friends, and beware of
moments when anger or the wrong choice of words may cause hearts to
be wounded.
