Vision of JGG
JGG: Vision is to create awareness among young students and public about various environment related problems
and conservation of the nature and natural resources in the surrounding area and how to live Eco-friendly.
The environment club called josephs green group was established on 12th december2013 with the aim of little steps
to save big world. The Environment Club Josephs Green Group at St Joseph’s Degree and PG College was started at
the behest of our principal, Rev.Fr.Vincent Arokiadas by coordinators. The increasing human foot print on earth
poses great environmental challenges that continue to grow over time. An unprecedented effort is required to
alleviate the adverse effects that human activities have on the ecosystem, effects that in turn alter how we interact
with the earth and with each other. Inclusion of all approaches to problem solving will be necessary to effect a
meaningful change. Joseph’s Green Group addresses this global need as an unparalleled hub of environmental
issues, innovation and education. Its unique strength is the zero with which this group has emerged to reduce the
carbon footprints of Jospehites.

The Department of Business Management initiated the program at the behest of the Principal, Rev. Fr.
Vincent Arokiadas on the 29th of November, 2014 under the banner of Joseph’s Green Group, the
Environmental Club.
In line with the ‘Swacch Bharat Mission’ started on 2nd October 2014 ,by our honorable Prime
Minister, Narendra Modi, the Department has put a step forward in implementing the mission with a
vision of a cleaner India.
Students from BBA, who had enrolled their names, were chosen to take part of the activity. The
students wore green outfits they were given tags of ‘Swacch Bharat’ and other slogans to create
awareness regarding the activity. The students assembled in the main campus ground were the Rev.
Fr. Vincent Arokiadas, Principal formally gave a green signal to begin the program. He addressed
the gathering and said that students must make it a habit to spread the concept of cleanliness within
oneself and he hoped that this activity will promote the development of the society as a whole. He
stressed that this was not a one day activity but students must make it a habit to clean and check that
their classrooms and campus remained clean at all times. The team was then provided with rubber
gloves, organic masks and waste bins. The area in front of the college and SherGate, Basheerbagh
was swept and cleaned with zeal and an urge to fulfill the mission. The waste was collected and
dumped in the GHMC yard waste. The program ended on a good note as the Principal congratulated
the team for their hard work.
The objective of this programme was
To create awareness in students cleaning should not be the responsibility of the karamcharis or
workers alone. All citizens are equally responsible for keeping clean.
To spread among the students the concept of “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.

FREE POLLUTION CHECK UP CAMPAIGN
The JOSEPH’S GREEN GROUP (JGG) of St. Joseph ‘s college in collaboration with CASTROL
INDIA LTD, organized on 4th July 2015 a day long “FREE POLLUTION CHECK UP “ campaign
,this initiative was taken on the occasion of “World Environment Day “ to promote Greener, Safer
and Healthier environment and contribute in saving our environment by maintaing in –use- vehicles
& also to spread awareness about the environmental damage and take small steps against it.
The students assembled in the main campus ground in front of the canteen near FREE POLLUTION
CHECK UP VEHICLE where Rev.Fr.Vincent Arokiadas, Principal formally gave a green signal to
begin the check up campaign program and said that students must aware about the importance of
safe vehicles and clean environment. Students classwise from main campus and extended campus
,teaching staff and non teaching staff activily passed their vehicles for pollution check up & they
received a Computerised Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate from Free Pollution check up team
& total number of vehicles passed for check up were 180 i.e 174 two wheelers & 6 four wheelers .
The campaign concluded with Mrs. Sangeeta, Faculty Convenor (JGG) proposing thanks, &
encouraging the students to do their part in contributing to the Healthier environment , as the youth
are the future of a better India.

Joseph’s Go Green (JGG) club of St.Joseph’s Degree & PG College in association with Council for
Green Revolution Hyderabad (CGR) organized a guest lecture on the topic “Environmental
Awareness” on 8th March 2016. Rev.Fr.Vincent Arokiadas, Principal , St.Joseph’s Degree & PG
College welcomed the guest speaker and highlighted the objectives of Joseph’s Go Green club and
underlined the importance of saving the environment. He advised students to plant saplings at their
homes and public places to make the environment green.He urged the students to maintain the
campus clean and to create a pollution free environment to maintain the quality of life.
C. Umamaheswar Reddy, Environmental Specialist , Council For Green Revolution, Hyderabad
Introduced the guest speaker. Dr. K. Purushotham Reddy discussed the factors influencing
environmental degradation .He gave an elaborative overview of the factors leading to climate change
, global warming and other such environmental issues and emphasized on the current issues related
to the environment like causes of pollution, effect of environmental pollution on human health and
life and possible solutions for these problems. He briefed about the role of World Commission on
Environment and Development (WCED). He highlighted on importance and effects of Ozone
layer.It's only when the students understand the importance of environment at a young age they will
be more responsible towards the environment when they grow up," said speaker.
At the end of lecture, few minutes were spent on Question and Answer session. Vote of thanks was
proposed by Mr Bhaskar . Assistant Professor Department of Commerce The lecture has proven to
be very inspiring and informative for the students.

Authority (RTA) ,Hyderabad organized a free pollution check up campaign on 14th , July 2016 in
main campus to educate vehicle owners on the importance of pollution control and to promote
greener, safer and healthier environment and contribute in saving our environment by maintaining
in –use- vehicles & also to spread awareness about the environmental damage and take small steps
against it. The students and faculty were actively involved. The event was inaugurated by the
resource person Mr. T. Raghunath, , JOINT COMMISSIONER , RTA Hyderabad,Director
Prof. P. L. Vishweshwar Rao , at 11.30am , along with JGG Convener , Mrs.Sangeeta thakur and
faculty co-ordinators Mr.Gowtham, Ms.Rafia Begum , Mrs.Laxmi madhuri, Mrs.Ragina and Mrs
Aarthi .Speaking on the occasion, the resource person stressed the need for everyone to respect the
environment and pollution control and to upkeep it for the next generations to come . He wished the
program all the success and said that it is a very good initiative undertaken by JGG andformally gave a
green signal to begin the pollution check up . Many teaching staff , non teaching staff and students,
who commute to college by their own two & four wheelers, got their vehicles checked. The event went
on till 4:00 pm in the evening. A total of 140 vehicles, including 138 two wheelers &2 four wheelers
were checked and received a computerized Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.

“ ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION AWARENESS AND ITS CONTROL “ on 14th , July 2016 ,

P.LVishweshwar Rao , Director welcomed the Guest speaker and students and highlighted the
impotence of vehicle pollution control also spoke about the privilege of having

The objective of the lecture was to bring awareness among the students about the importance of
vehicle Pollution Control. The Resource person presented the current issues related to the
environment like causes of vehicle pollution, effect of environmental pollution on human health and
life. He highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and the ways that can be imparted
in automobiles to reduce pollution and conserve the surrounding.
He stressed on more plantation of trees to save the environment. He stated that after
plantation, proper care is needed otherwise main purpose of plantation gets wasted. He emphasized
on pollution control is a team work and everybody should come forward in this mission. He also
suggested different ways to save the environment. He enlightened on objectives of “Telanganaku
Haritha Haram “ massive programme which was launched by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
He even spoke about the ban on diesel cars and the odd even scheme used in Delhi to reduce the
pollution levels. He focused on the effect offour main components of pollution carbon mono-oxide,
hydro carbons, nitrous oxide and carbon di-oxide.
At the end of lecture, few minutes were spent on Question and Answer session. The session was
concluded with the presentation of Vote of thanks by P.LVishweshwar Rao , Director

lakes. Students were seen by displaying placards and colorful posters .The posters carried out message like
SAVE LAKES , USE PLAIN CLAY GANESHA, DEOVOTION IS IMPORTANT NOT DECORATIION& SAVE
ENVIRINMENT and few students had prepared slogans which said “Clay Ganesha brings gain by not causing
environment pain”, “We are born to help the world and not destroy it.” and “Go Eco –Friendly this Ganesh
Chaturthi.”

Report on INTERNATIONAL OZONE DAY-
The college makes special efforts to instill environmental awareness amongst its students. We firmly believe
that environmental awareness must lead to environmental action. International Ozone Day is being celebrated
all over the World on 16th September every year to create environmental awareness among the common
people so as to concern and protect our environment from its fast degradation in all aspects.
JOSEPH’S GREEN GROUP faculty and student coordinators celebrated International Ozone Day on 16th
September, 2017 in the main campus with the theme ‘Caring for life under the sun’ to create awareness
among young students about “Preservation of Ozone Layer and its effect on Environment” and also bring
awareness towards the health hazards and ecological imbalance caused by depletion of the ozone layer
present in the atmosphere by conducting , models exhibition and power point presentation
The event was inaugurated by the Principal of the college Rev.Fr. Vincent Arokiadas. He addressed the
students the importance of safe guarding the ozone by minimizing the pollution. and how its preservation
has became an issue of great concern worldwide.
The students gave a presentation through charts and models, highlighting the main factors
responsible for this destruction caused in the atmosphere and its detrimental results on all living
beings. The students came up with innovative, informative & colorful models and posters
depicting "Ozone a natural umbrella".
JGG student coordinators then went around with the students of SLATE school Hyderabad,
were the audience for the event and they saw all the Models exhibits exhibited by the students
after that they assembled in the seminar hall , where JGG student coordinators presented to the
Slate school students about the ozone layer, including how it protects people from radiation by using
power point and showed videos about the ozone layer.
The students were very enthusiastic and prepared beautiful charts depicting
Drawings of the ozone layer depletion , models .which were put on display .on the whole , it was a creative
and interesting assembly ,which enlightened the audience and made them realize the seriousness of the
situation
Rev.Fr. Vincent Arokiadas ,Principal appreciated the efforts of the students and asked
them to awake the public to take care of the steps to fight with this dangerous problem.

Field visit for students reinforces what a faculty has been explaining in class about various concepts
like environment and natural resources and also help students understand the topic better. It also
cultivates social skills and students understand to be respectful of the locations they visit.
JOSEPH’S GREEN GROUP of St.Joseph’s Degree & PG college organized a field trip to active farm
school at Kowkuntla Village, Ranga Reddy District, Chevella, on 5th December , 2017 , for BBA (IT)
,BBA(BA) B.Sc. students of strength 101 ,and JGG faculty coordinators accompanied were Mrs
Sangeeta Thakur Mrs Aarti ,Mr Krishna and Ms, Sucheta .
Students visited a active farm school ; at village 10.30 am in the morning. To understand practically
about farming activities in the field was one of the main purposes of the visit. Students were very
curious to learn and observe.
In the beginning, All students were assembled together under a shed along with the faculty. they
were welcomed by the farm owner,. He started session with his personal background saying how
after pursuing a Bachelors in Commerce and an MBA, he ventured into the field of agriculture as he
was passionate about the subject
He later introduced to other farmers who had managed to turn farming into a profitable business for
themselves and awarded them with marigold garlands, gifts and a ‘Profitable Farmer’ certificate. The
businesses run by the farmers were of cotton, carrot, mango, etc. In the course of discussion with the
farmers, they also understood the problems faced by them during crop production period. In length,
they also discussed about the irrigation pattern, methods of harvesting, etc. The farmers also shared
various statistics about the market value of particular crops and related transportation facility for
selling. Students were demonstrated traditional and modern implementation. Students showed a lot
of interest by raising different questions on the farming activities and agricultural sector
He also further briefed them about the farm and its various activities like plantation , harvesting ,
paddy cultivation Jaggery Making, Jam Making and methods of those activities . Students learnt about
the seed plantation iin the field, students were given demonstration about seed plantation and
explained about Different plants require different methods of plantation. After that they were taken
to an open field along with farmers to assist them in seed plantation and students were given the
required tools to work and were assigned different patches in the field for every student to
comfortably involve in seed plantation activity
Next, students were taken to the different fields to show harvesting methods of carrots. Cotton,
corn. All students enjoyed harvesting activities after that students were taken to the paddy
cultivation field.
At the end, students expressed their satisfaction with the field trip visit, hospitality of active farm
school staff and the experience in the farm activities The visit was finally concluded around 4:00 pm
The students left the plant around 4:30 pm with some deep insights and new learning which would be
very beneficial for them.
The trip ended and they returned back to college main campus 6.30 p.m with a lot of complimentary
gifts of cotton ,Carrot , SweetCorns from active school farm
Through these trips students will have more opportunity to explore and then incorporate agricultural
and environmental issues into their educational and development settings
Such field visits create, “episodic memories,” which helps students retain information for longer
periods. The visit was very valuable for students.

topic “Awareness on Energy Conservation ” on 14th,Decemberin the extended campus.

Permaculture Educator, Designer and Consultant Hyderabad .and highlighted the objectives of
Joseph’s Green Group(JGG) and underlined the importance of saving the environment. He urged
young students to adopt small steps on regular basis to conserve energy for the future
Mrs Sangeeta Thakur faculty, JGG Convenor, who introduced the guest speakers and briefed
students about the objective of the guest lecture .The guest speakerMr. Upendra Shri Sainathbegan
the session with a Power Point presentation specially on the base Energy Source available its
availability vis-à-vis current rate of consumption. He also gave data of how long these source of
energy will be available. He said that Energy save means Energy produce. So, one should be while
using any form of energy ,it can be the use of electricity for domestic use or running motor car or
cooking Gas for cooking purpose, everywhere there is scope of conservation of energy and it helps to
save energy for further use.
He, explained the purpose of celebration of this day is to make every student aware of saving the
national energy for their future use and urged to create a consensus among the people for
conservation of national energy.
Mr. Upendra , further explained in detail about the advantage of rooftop solar energy installation.
‘National Energy is important for every people to develop and achieve the goals of every task
properly. Without National Energy, it is impossible for the people to do many of important tasks’, he
added.
He also emphasized on how energy harvesting contributes towards a cleaner world. He was
comparing India and China with the, USA and Japan through which he focused on the need for
utilizing the unconventional sources of energy.
At the end of lecture, few minutes were spent on Question and Answer session. Vote of thanks was
proposed by Mrs Sangeeta Thakur Assistant Professor Department of Management
The lecture has proven to be very inspiring and informative for the students.

Report on INTERNATIONAL PLANTATION DAY
Joseph’s Green group (JGG) of St.joseph’s Degree & PG college had organized the event of tree
plantation to mark INTERNATIONAL PLANTATION DAY on 22nd December 2017 , under the theme,
‘Today’s Trees, Tomorrow’s Future’. in the college campus , with great enthusiasm in which
students participated in large number. . Meaningful messages were put up all around on the
importance of trees. For this, students displayed charts depicting clean and green environment.
The initiative was aimed to create awareness among students that Nature has endowed us with
great gifts and it is our utmost duty to conserve it and also promoting the value of forests and trees,
while providing an opportunity for everyone to contribute to beautifying the surroundings by
planting trees.
Trees are the foremost source for producing the oxygen in environment, they helps to reduce the level
of CO2 . As we all know that the whole world is facing the problem of global warming and to recover
from such problem planting the trees is become one of the most important aspects today.
The Tree Plantation programme began with students gathering in the ground. In the spirit of the day,
they had brought small little saplings to be planted in college ground and with the welcoming of Prof
. P.L Vishweshwer Rao Director St.Joseph’s Degree PG College and Rev.Fr. M. Arogyam. Assistant

On this occasion, Prof . P.L Vishweshwer Rao Director ,addressed the students and emphasized on
conserving and protecting the environment wealth, urging students to save the environment by each
one planting one sapling to prevent further desertification of the earth. He added that it is the
responsibility of every one of us to not only grow trees bust also taking care and protecting them . It
was very inspiring. Then all students along with Prof . P.L Vishweshwer Rao , Rev.Fr. M. Arogyam.
Assistant went on the selected spot for tree plantation. Then the first plant was planted with the
hands of Prof . P.L Vishweshwer Rao , and then Rev.Fr. M. Arogyam. Assistant .

GUEST LECTURE ON PLASTIC FREE CAMPUS

St. Joseph’s Degree and PG College conducted “Haritha Haaram” event in the college premises on 16th
August, 2018 to promote eco-friendly behavior among the students. Mrs. Mamata Gupta, Gunfoundry
Corporator and Shashikant Khaja, a budding entrepreneur were invited as guests to the event.
The event was inaugurated with a dance performance by the students on the theme of environmental
preservation. The guests then performed haritha haaram by planting saplings. This was followed by an
address by the local corporator Mamata Gupta, who spoke about the various initiatives of the government of
Telangana to reduce plastic usage and curb pollution. The young entrepreneur, Shashikant Khaja, then
shared his personal experiences regarding the damage to the wildlife by plastic and its influence on him.
Shashikant has a startup that manufactures cotton bags as an alternative to plastic. The session was indeed
interactive and the gathering responded very well as they raised important questions on various aspects
including water pollution and plastic waste control.
The event ended as the guests were felicitated and Shashikant handed out samples of his cotton bags to the
students. The college in its bid to make its campus plastic free has planned to distribute cotton bags to its
students and neighborhood. The event turned out to be enlightening for the students and it inspired them to
take up the responsibility of preserving the environment for a better future.

Report on INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO CLOTH BAG INDUSTRY
DATE: 1ST OCT 2018
St Joseph’s Degree and PG College conducted a industrial visit to a cloth bag making industry in
bolaram to promote the usage of cloth bags over plastic bags. Shashikanth khaja a budding
entrepreneur was the owner of the industry.
The trip was inaugurated by the prayer for safety by father. We started by 9; 30AM in a bus and
reached the industry by 11:00.AM It was a cottage industry with 1o workers having femaleworkers
more than the male workers. Different sizes of bags (small, medium.large ) were being
manufactured .Shashikanth khaja explained the need to stop using plastic bags and start using cloth
bags. He explained the various strategies in marketing and how to deal with the consumers. There
are no retail outlets .Max, Roseatry are the consumers of these bags. After this session we had
practical sessions where students themselves learnt how to stitch these bags. Then we stared around
12:30 from industry to college and reached there by 1:30.
All the students got inspired by the enlightening words of shashikant khaja and promised to reduce,
reuse and recycle plastic and will make our college a plastic free campus.

campus). The guest lecture was given by Mr.Rakesh Kamal on the environment related hazards and its solutions. He
spoke about how the climate is impacted due to various activities of human beings and in turn how it can have adverse
effect on human life on earth. Students found the session very useful and also the resource person made the audience
as to how each one’s effort to protect the climate is an important drop in the ocean.

Report on ORIENTATION ON WATER AID
Joseph’s Green group (JGG) of St.joseph’s Degree & PG college had organized an Orientation Programme on
Water Aid. The resources person was Ms.Pratibha. The orientation was conducted in Chapel Hall,St.Joseph’s Degree
& PG College. This programme was conducted on 13th Feb 2019. The aim of this organization is to sensitize people
about the stuggles of millions of Indians who do not have access to clean water. Water Aid is an international not-for
profit organization with presence across 38 countries worldwide, transforming millions of lives every year with clean
water, decent sanitation and good hygiene. (WASH). It has been working in India since 1986 and has played a
significant role in the WASH sector. In the orientation programme for the students, they made them aware of the same
thing and also encouraged them to participate in their upcoming run called Blue Mile that is being organized by them.
This programme was attended by 100 students from all streams.

Joseph’s Green group (JGG) of St.joseph’s Degree & PG college facilitated registrations for a Programme called
Blue Mile “Water Aid” in collaboration with GHMC. The person in-charge was Ms.Pratibha. The registration process
was at St.Joseph’s Degree & PG College. This registration process was on 13th Feb 2019. The Blue Mile is divided
into 3 categories – 2.5k, 5k, 10k. The run invites passionate runners from corporate, educational institutions,etc. The
Blue Mile is a run around Hyderabad’s famous water body “Hussain Sagar Lake”. Many students showed interest in

Joseph’s Green group (JGG) of St.joseph’s Degree & PG college had organized an Orientation Programme by
Yuvata an NGO.This programme was conducted on 22nd February 2019 in Chapel Hall, St.Joseph’s Degree & PG
College. The resource persons were Ms.Hari Chandana and Ms.Nikila. The NGO engages into environment friendly
activities such as recycling the used paper and old newspapers which they named as MISSION -B. They make
notebooks out of it and distribute it among the poor children of government schools. The same was explained to the
students and they encouraged the students to participate in such activities. The students participation was very
good and they too got motivated to get into such activities.

Report on ORIENTATION PROGRAM BY "WASTE VENTURES INDIA PVT LTD "
Joseph’s Green Group (JGG) of St.Joseph’s Degree & PG College had organized an Orientation
Programme by "WASTE VENTURES INDIA PVT LTD ". This programme was conducted on 1st March
2019 in Canteen , St.Joseph’s Degree & PG College. The resource persons was Ms. Sahithi Bhupathiraju
(Urban Waste Manager). She explained faculty coordinators and student Coordinators about
Wet Waste: Food waste from the cafeteria and kitchens (both vegetable and fruit peels and leftover
food waste) will be measured. A suitable quotation for compost bins will then be provided.
Dry Waste: A separate space will be allocated in your premises for storage of dry waste.
This programme was very helpful in making the participants understand about the waste
management. This is something one can implement in the day-to-day life as we come across different
waste types (dry and wet) when we work in the kitchen. This programme helped in making the
participants understand as to why the dry and wet wastes have to be segregated and then how to deal
with the two types – wet and dry wastes separately. The participants expressed that it was a very
good learning experience for them.

VENUE : PEOPLE’S PLAZA – HYDERABAD. Water Aid is an international not-for profit organization with presence across 38 countries worldwide, transforming
millions of lives every year with clean water, decent sanitation and good hygiene. (WASH). It has been working in
India since 1986 and has played a significant role in the WASH sector. The aim of this organization is to sensitize
people about the struggles of millions of Indians who do not have access to clean water. The organization in
collaboration with GHMC, organized a Run named “Blue Mile”. The run was divided into 3 categories - 2.5k, 5k,
and 10k. The run invites passionate runners from corporate, educational institutions, etc. The Blue Mile is a run
around Hyderabad’s famous water body “Hussain Sagar Lake”. Students from St.Joseph’s Degree & PG College
showed a lot of enthusiasm by participating in this Run. 25 students and 1 Faculty Member Mrs. Harshita Singh
participated in the run. Mrs. Harshita Singh, Faculty Member, Department of Commerce, St.Joseph’s Degree & PG
College was also in the Top 5 in the 10 K run.

VENUE : St. Joseph’s Degree and P.G College Main Campus REPORT ON FREE POLLUTION CHECK UP CAMPAIGN Joseph’s Green Group (JGG) of St. Joseph’s Degree & PG College organized a free pollution check up
campaign on 7th , March 2019 at 10 :30 am in main campus to educate vehicle owners on the
importance of pollution control and to promote greener, safer and healthier environment and
contribute in saving our environment by maintaining in –use- vehicles & also to spread awareness
about the environmental damage and take small steps against it. Many teaching staff , non teaching
staff and students, who commute to college by their own two & four wheelers, got their vehicles
checked including Principal’s Vehicle . The event went on till 4:00 pm in the evening. A total of 202
vehicles, including 199 two wheelers & 3 four wheelers were checked and received a computerized
Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.
