Religious Education

Want an easy way to find out more about our rosary and prayers?

The Holy Rosary is a most complete prayer. It is composed of two parts: The Mysteries and the prayers, both in harmony with each other, as a beautiful composition. Vocal prayer and Meditation, hand in hand, as a reflection of the Christian life in the same way as Martha and Mary in the Gospel account. Martha laboring, just as the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be are repeated throughout; and Mary, sitting at the feet of the Lord, listening to His every word, meditating and contemplating.

If we really give it some thought, the rosary reflects our humanity; body and soul both a working unit. St. John Paul II recommended the praying of the Holy Rosary and

Praying the Holy Rosary: “The Family that prays together, stays together.”

wrote about it in his Apostolic Letter, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 2002. He suggested three different “tempos” for praying it, once you have created the habit of the daily rosary: saying the

Mystery out loud, to bring an image of the scene into our mind, saying the prayers and allowing them bring you to the Mystery in a passive manner, and finally silence after each Mystery to meditate its meaning. In other words, allowing God to speak to us.

For those of you who do not pray the Rosary, give it a try. Pray 15 minutes every night as a family; you will never regret reciting the gift of Our Lady to us. If you have small children, you can always start with just one Mystery, explaining its meaning to the children. Remember, “the Family that prays together, stays together.”

Courage Ministry The Catholic Church has a special

ministry for people who experience same-sex attraction and wish to escape the misery which they may have experienced in the so-called gay lifestyle. It is called “Courage,” which provides support groups in both English and Spanish for those who wish to live chaste lives according to the Church’s teachings. The anonymous meetings are always facilitated by a Catholic priest.

Recently the Modesto Bee published an article that made it sound like there was only one place where people could go to find acceptance. It

was about a father whose son experiences homosexual attraction and so he opened a drop-in center where all such people could gather. But our Catholic priests are spiritual fathers who call out to their children to come and find a place of authentic love and acceptance.

Courage visit the website www.couragerc.org or please call

The word catholic signifies that she is

universal

Dear Brothers and Sisters: When we profess the Creed, we affirm that the Church is catholic and apostolic. The word catholic signifies that she is universal. This means that the Church is found everywhere and teaches the whole truth regarding the heavens and the earth. The Church shows her catholicity by speaking all languages which is the effect of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit gave to the Apostles and the whole Church the gift of proclaiming the Good News of God’s salvation and love to all, even to the ends of the earth. The Church then is of her nature missionary, given to evangelization and encounter; that is, she is apostolic. Founded on the Apostles and in continuity with them, the Church is called to proclaim the Gospel to everyone, and to show the tenderness and power of God. This too flows from Pentecost. It is the Holy Spirit who prevents us from being self-absorbed, of thinking that the blessings of God are for us alone. Rather, the Spirit compels us to encounter our brothers and sisters, even those most distant from us in every way, to share with them the love, peace, and joy of the Risen Lord. May we always live in solidarity with all of humanity, and never closed in on ourselves. May we go out, in communion with the Successors of the Apostles, to announce Christ and his love to all. And may we always be a sign of the Church our Mother: holy, catholic and apostolic.

The RCIA process requires many stewards of the faith to guide and educate those who are becoming Catholic. Members of the RCIA team serve weekly for most of the year and attend additional meetings and trainings each year.

Our RCIA team offers the process in both English and Spanish with catechists passing on the faith week after week. Two of these faith s t e w a r d s r e c e n t l y r e c e i v e d certification from the St. John Bosco Conference after 5 years of study. Rosario Hernandez and Neil Phillips, Jr. attended the conference at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio each summer and wrote numerous papers to show their comprehension of the material.

This certification is a tremendous accomplishment and shows a high degree of dedication and competency. Helping those who are seeking a relationship with Jesus Christ in His Church is one of the most important things we do as stewards of the mysteries He has revealed. Don’t forget to pray for them, the other catechists at our parish, for those who are in the RCIA process and for more people to inquire into the possibility of becoming Catholic.

En la Diócesis...

Leer - Meditar - Orar y Vivir:

GALA NEWS: Only 26 days until the November 1st, 7th Annual Gala! Do you have your tickets yet? If you have a business, have you placed your sponsorship or advertisement order? Let us help. Go online to purchase tickets or if you prefer in person, stop by the parish office to place your order.

SOME FAST FACTS: Where do the funds go? Our Building Plan Fund. We are building funds to meet growth needs. Who can come? Anyone who wants to have a great time at our premiere parish event. What to wear? This is a dressy event, but please wear what makes you feel most comfortable. Our theme this year (in honor of All Saints Day) is “An Evening in Rome…Celebrating our Saints.” Will we have real Swiss Guards at the entrance to Fr. O’Hare Hall? Well, since Fr. O’Hare Hall will be transformed into the Vatican at night, yes we will have “real St. Joseph’s” Vatican Guards. Can I come alone? Yes. We have many guests who come alone; just let us know and we’ll find a table of fast friends for you. Should I arrive exactly at 6pm? Yes! That is the best time to sample the delicious Hors d'ouevres, cocktails and write your bid on the outstanding silent auction items, including many saint statues. What if I want to donate something for the silent or live auction? Please do so! Call 551-4973, ext. 202 or stop by the parish office. What’s next? Invite your better half or significant other and friends, get your tickets and be prepared to visit the Vatican. God Bless, The Many Hands, Many Hearts, One Mission Committee
