Friends, In the Decree from the Congregation for
Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, one of the important pastoral notes was that we make resources and liturgical aids available for those watching the liturgy online. These include reproduction of responses, musics and prayers. The reason is simple: our worship and prayer must continue to be fostered even in unusual circumstances. There is special emphasis put on praying the Liturgy of the Hours. Putting together an horarium of liturgical prayer, especially for the Triduum, is a great pastoral help to our folks. This can published online and, even if every event is not broadcast, the community praying together at the same time is a great value and powerful instrument of grace.
Parishes who are streaming their Masses for Holy Week are asked to make sure their homebound parishioners have the adequate resources they need to actively and devoutly participate from afar. Below are just some of the many free resources available during this time. Don't forget the Daily Readings are available on the USCCB.org website and through Diocesan Publications on the MyParish app.
Some free resources to assist during this critical
time:
1. Magnificat – free liturgical resource with
prayers, songs, and readings. This can be
used and a parish could adapt its Holy Week
Roman Missal to the selections provided
here. In addition to its online edition,
MAGNIFICAT is now offering
complimentary access to its iOS and
Android Apps throughout May. To register
for free access in English, visit
www.magnificat.com/free . For free access
in Spanish, visit and register at
www.magnificat.com/gratis . We are also happy to make available
complimentary access to MagnifiKid. Visit
www.magnifikid.com/free to view and
download each weekly booklet of our
colorful Sunday missalette for children ages
6 through 12. While so many children are
missing formal religious instruction and are
unable to attend Mass, MagnifiKid! can be
their special guide, accompanying them
through each week as they prepare to attend
Mass or watch it at home.
2. IBreviary – free Liturgy of the Hours
resources for every hour.
We created the following temporary web
page offering a printable prayer PDF
for the current hour every day. Maybe the
link will be helpful to your
parish or diocese.

3. OneLicense - free use of music resources
until April 15, 2020. You can reprint songs
you will be using in your worship aids and
online booklets.
OCP is for a limited time granting
permission for live streaming our
copyrighted materials until April 15, 2020 –

5th Sunday of Lent
Lent is not about suffering and sacrifice. It’s a corridor to new life. Good Friday is not about pain and death. It's the door that Jesus opens to in-vite us into that new life. Yes, suffering is part of the Lenten journey (which can be experienced at any time of the year). Yes, Lent includes the sacrifices of fasting and abstinence, almsgiving and extra time in church. But these are just vehicles for the trip. God uses our sufferings (if we let him) to help us grow in compassion, persistence, and ministry. Our sacrifices teach us discipline (which is discipleship) so that we can purify our will and grow stronger in holiness. But the trip is not the destination. Lent is all about reaching the resurrection: renewing our faith, entering a new life free of old sins, reconciling dam-aged relationships, and living
in the Spirit of God more than we ever did before. Which day is more important to your faith: Good Friday or Easter? That horrid day on Calvary was necessary for Easter, but we are living in the resurrection! Catho-lics are an Easter people. This means that nothing bad can ever happen to us that will not be transformed into blessings if Jesus is the Lord of our lives. He proved himself to be the Resurrection and the Life by displaying his power over life and death. Now he wants to prove it again – to you and to all those who are watching.
Reflect & Discuss:
1. We can personalize the first read-ing by understanding that God will open our graves (whatever is dead inside of us) and will place his Spirit of Life within us. How does the Holy Spirit help us dis-cover healing and hope amidst daily sufferings?
2. In the scripture from Romans, we are reminded again of the Holy Spirit within us. Since the Spirit is alive in you, what affect does this have on your Lenten journey? What is being purified, strength-ened, and renewed?
3. In the Gospel, Jesus proves his power over death just before he enters Jerusalem and heads to-ward Calvary. How does this prove to you that your own suffer-ings and sacrifices will not lead to permanent disaster?
Lenten Activity: What needs to be resurrected in your life? What will you do this week to accept the death of what has ended so that you can prepare for the new life that Jesus is preparing for you?
